Coco Roco... Closed Health Department

I passed by and guess what the yellow signs are up again and they are "cleaning" or whatever.
Ready to give up on this place.
If they are that easy to violate perhaps there is some real filth going on there.

  • I absolutely hate that place (sorry guys) so I'm glad.
They served me up the most inedible plate of food there, rubbery, cold, dry, crunchy rice, and to top it off! one of there shriveled up scab-of-a-mussel had sand in it and chipped my back tooth, I had to pay to get it filled!

    (rant over)

just needed to get that off my chest.
  • Ha. Love it. I was standing outside another place on 5th in mid slope that didn't have room for me and mine last Sunday so I won't give them a plug by naming them. We moved on to Bogota instead, but before we could I had to listen to some girl repeatedly whining to her friends how she wanted to go to Coco Roco. She was very annoying so I hope she made it there.
  • might have to trek to Cobble Hill this weekend :)

Does anyone have any idea what's in the dipping sauce they put out at dinner with plantain chips? Maybe guac, sour cream, peppers and ??? I love that stuff.
  • The owners of this place must know some people on high because they WERE reopened for dinner tonight at 7pm.. all the yellow signs down. Now what restaurant can get a re-inspection done on a late Friday afternoon? They are off my list... too frequent with the Health Dept violations and too fast with removal. I suspect "nothing" was removed. We ate at Rachel's , in the back garden area this evening. We had a two year old with us . The kid had other kid company in the garden but it was not the typical child PS out of control fest in a restaurant. We had half a chicken, skirt steak with shrimp, the requisite rice and beans and grilled corn, frozen Marguarita (which was exceptional)... a lovely, inexpensive meal!!
  • Subject: hi

went to cocoroco two fridays ago..... we order some appetizers to share and entree..... for the appetizers to get to our table took like one hour.... the food wasnt good ... and then they brough some sauce for the chicken i dont know what kind of sauce was but was terrible it was like oure vegetable oil taste.
The service was terrible also..... i was looking around to the other tables and i saw alot of unhappy faces.
yesterday i noticed i was close by the dep. of Health..... i dont wanna know what they found ther, but must something terrible.
You need less than 28 points in order to pass the inspection and to get 28 points in the inspection is kinda hard... unlees they find some critical violations.....(you dont wanna know what's a critical violation).
Is weird that they opened again the same night......i have nothing against them but you have to be carefull with the food you serve to your customers.

  • The service is the worst I've seen and they obviously can't keep the place clean. I have given this place every chance to redeem itself and now I give up. i will miss the chicken and that special plantain sauce but how many chances should a restaurant get?!
  • i've never liked this place. Mancora or Bogota Bistro are the ways to go!

Try El Pollo on 5th Ave at 2nd Street. The place has a smaller menu, but their chicken and rice are always excellent. It is really the only place in PS that has properly prepared rice that is moist and delicious.

They are also very cheap - $14 for a whole chicken with rice and beans, enough to feed a family.
