Rogers Ave and Sterling Street — Brooklynian

Rogers Ave and Sterling Street

My wife and I are wondering if the area around Rogers Ave and Sterling St are safe. We've been looking to buy mostly around Ditmas and Kensington and we found some condo listings on Rogers. Also, is the area good for bars, restaurants, book shops, etc? We'd rather be closer to the park but safe, too. Thanks.

  • we live on epkwy at rogers. it's pretty safe, there was a mugging on our block around the holidays but for the most part the area is mostly families (we have a one-year-old child). don't know much about sterling, but there isn't much on those few blocks in the way of shops and restaurants. there are a few conveniences on nostrand, and as you may have seen - new places are popping up all the time, so it's a pretty good place to be now.

    best of luck.
  • We're on Sterling between Bedford and Franklin and love the area.
  • While Rogers and Sterling is not a bad area, I find Kensington and Ditmas Park more appealing. They are quieter, safer, cleaner, and currently have more amenities. Crown Heights is improving, but it still has a way to go.
  • Thanks for the responses. I know there aren't a lot of PLG people on here. I'll get a better sense on Friday when I walk around the streets there. I do like the quietness of Ditmas, too.
  • One good thing I discovered about Rodgers and Sterling today is the B71 bus. Stops right at the corner near the medical supply place and runs very efficiently over to Cobble Hill via EP and Union Street. Its about a 10 minute ride to 7th Avenue and about 25-30 down to Smith Street. It doesn't run that frequently during the day, but makes for an easy commute to either PS or Cobble Hill for dinner and drinks.
  • Yeah, that bus rules as long as you know the schedule. If you just show up and you miss it, it's usually a half hour wait. Also, I think the last bus is around 10pm? So if you're out later than that in PS, you're better off walking or catching a cab.
  • I was actually refering to Sterling Street, not Sterling Place. The buses on Sterling Street don't look nearly as great :(
