Subject: Crown Height's Greenscape

I guess I am jumping on the "Go Green" bandwagon. It seems that there is so much talk recently about "going green" -- this morning I even read about a "green" tour of downtown Brooklyn. Just wondering if there were things that we could do in our neighborhood to increase the "greenscape". Not so much with respect to energy consumption, but rather with respect to increasing the number of trees, grass, gardens etc. in the neighborhood. Eastern Parkway is beautiful, but many side streets have significantly more concrete than green. I, for one, would love to see this change. Any thoughts?

you can request a free street tree and get your neighbors to do the same. There is a form on nyc.gov or I believe you can do it by calling 311.

Actually, we had several people from the Parks Dept. to the Sterling Place Civic Association meeting in March to talk to us about street trees. They said the department would only be accepting individual tree applications for a short time more. Soon, Parks will be planting whole swaths of the city with trees. Homeowners that have sidewalks that can accommodate a tree will be getting one, like it or not.
Personally, I love it. I got my street tree in early March after an almost 2 year wait.

You can request a tree at the following URL... supposedly it take up to 1 year for the tree to be planted.
Also, you can plant your own tree along the sidewalk.
