Brower park violence — Brooklynian

Brower park violence

Yesterday our babysitter had my 2 year old at the Brower Park playground, where we go regularly. Around 4 PM a young boy (12 or so) was beaten badly by a group of older young men (early 20s). Apparently, the boy was laying in a pool of blood, and was dragged away by a couple friends. My babysitter said she and other adults there were screaming and crying for the assailants to stop (they didn't), and called the police, who came about 15 minutes later. I called the 77th precinct yesterday and spoke to someone in community affairs, who promised he would, "call me right back" with more information. I still haven't heard from him 24 hours later. It's amazing how millions can be spent on the Children's Museum (around next to the playground) yet there is rarely a noticeable police presence around the park, nor park employees there regularly during daylight hours (from what I've seen).

Comments

  • Wow- that's really unbelievable and sad. I highly suggest you go to the monthly community meetings (last Thusday of every month, I think??). As a parent you have to be outraged!
  • Please call Det. McLean at 718-735-0634. She is the senior community affairs officer at the 77th Precinct and always been excellent to work with. I do believe she really cares.
  • Det. McLean doesn't care. She only deals with people that kiss her ass. The 77th precinct doesn't respond to Brower Park very well. They need to pay more attention to the gangs that hang out in the park.
  • the next 77th Precinct Council meeting is
    Monday May 12
(2nd Monday of every month, CB8 meetings are the 2nd Thurs)
    Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation
727 Classon Avenue (bet. Park & Prospect Place)
    7:30 pm
(this calendar is usually current: http://www.crowhillcommunity.org/calendar.html)

please bring this awful story there
not only is the commanding officer present but many of our elected officials or their representatives are as well

it is the best place to bring these issues
not only to communicate concerns to the precinct directly
but also to be in a room filled with other people who are concerned about and work towards improving public safety in our community
