Yup. If Obama fails the Wright test, what test do Bush/Cheney/McCain fail? 'Cause it's sure as hell more significant, disastrous, and dangerous.
  • Spike Lee weighs in. He thinks Wright may be being paid to sabotage Obama.
"Jeremiah Wight needs to be quiet," Lee said yesterday. "If he loves Obama he needs to shut up right now. It makes me question his motives for talking. I'm starting to wonder whether somebody has been contributing to the building funds of his church. Seriously."

An interesting story in the NY Post about Wright's $1M retirement residence. Possibly related? Or conspiracy freaks?
When the Rev. Jeremiah Wright stops sermonizing, he'll retire to a luxurious $1 million mansion nestled next to a golf course in an upscale Chicago suburb - all paid for by his former church.

    Um... howabout "Johannes von Kahn"

    Vaguely familiar...

    Ah yes, here it is:

Barack Obama has charisma and charm but in terms of character, values and understanding, he is no Jackie Robinson. By now, many Americans have heard the racist and anti-American tirades of Obama's minister and spiritual counselor. There's no way that Obama could have been a 20-year member of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church and not been aware of his statements."

Thomas Sowell: "It is painful to watch defenders of Barack Obama tying themselves into knots trying to evade the obvious. Some are saying that Senator Obama cannot be held responsible for what his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, said. In their version of events, Barack Obama just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time—and a bunch of mean-spirited people are trying to make something out of it."

Shelby Steele writes: “Obama has fellow-traveled with a hate-filled, anti-American black nationalism all his adult life, failing to stand and challenge an ideology that would have no place for his own (white) mother."
Considering Reagan, Bush 1 & 2 and Mccain have been in bed with the likes of Falwell, Robertson, Hagee and a ton of other "men of the cloth" who have blamed blacks (especially a national day off for MLK), Jews, an occasional Catholic, gays, lesbians and liberals for America's woes and disasters, Wright sounds like an outright pacifist compared to previosuly mentioned.

Pacifist? What a stupid comment. Robert KKK Byrd ring a bell? Reagan or Bush never had a racist hate America pastor for 20 years. The Democrat party is the party of anti-black people.

Democrats ruled the segregated South until the 1960s. Democrats were the party of Jim Crow and Bull Connor. Senate Democrats, including former Ku Klux Klan recruiter Robert Byrd and Bill Clinton mentor William Fulbright and Al Gore, Sr. filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The stalemate was broken by Senate Republicans ensuring passage of the bill.

History reveals that every piece of racist legislation that was ever passed and every racist terrorist attack that was ever inflicted on African Americans, was initiated by the members of the Democratic Party. From the formation of the Democratic Party in 1792 to the Civil Rights movement of 1960's, Congressional records show the Democrat Party passed no specific laws to help Blacks, every law that they introduced into Congress was designed to hurt blacks in 1894 Repeal Act.

Let's not forget how welfare destroyed the black family.

President Bush appointed more black to positions of real power and authority. Bubba has an office in Harlem he said recently haha so ya can't call him a racist.

But that's just it, I'm NOT offended by it. Some People in my family have that name.

I'm just wondering why YOU are.
  • unless you refer to the other candidates as "john sidney" and "hillary diane", it does seem like you're trying to get at something....
  • SevenOneEighty and sweet tea, I'm 99% certain that my dear eggcream is a troll, if not, then a Bush dead-ender.

eggcream knows that freedom isn't free.

eggcream knows that Iraq is protecting our way of life.
  • i disagree with a fair amount of what eggcream has to say about politics, but i don't think s/he's a troll. eggcream posts on plenty of topics, and not just to rile up other posters.
  • eggcream wrote: Pacifist? What a stupid comment. Robert KKK Byrd ring a bell? Reagan or Bush never had a racist hate America pastor for 20 years.
Reagan and Bush aren't running for office, though. Johannes von Kahn is, and HE'S the one that courted the anti-Semite, anti-Catholic minister for an endorsement.
  • eggcream is clearly a political troll then.

eggcream's freedom is on the march.
  • just to play devil's advocate, plenty of strident anti-bush and other republican comments are made here all the time. i don't agree with EC's take, but i don't think it's trolling.
  • 'barry hussein' is not anti-Barak.

It's ignorant baiting. It's nothing above trollishness.
  • Boygabriel wrote: [quote=alafairnadia][quote=Boygabriel]I think we can all agree that John McCain is a great candidate for an old folks' home.
    100%

He's like Grandpa Simpson, but FAR less lovable.
To continue the devil's advocate spin, how is this different?
  • Playing off a bigoted rightwing smear campaign that implies that Obama is a closet Muslim versus comparing McCain to a Simpsons character? really?

I don't think eggcream is a political troll for the mind-numbingly ignorant comments about Obama's ethnicity, so much as for the fact that s/he basically offers nothing else when it comes to discussion of the presidential race on these boards.

I think you guys are confusing 'biased' with 'trollish'. The first is commonplace, the second is a waste of server space.
  • Boygabriel wrote: 'barry hussein' is not anti-Barak.

Actually, nah -- it'd only be baiting if eggcream was just itching for a fight and was saying anything to get it. Trolls don't actually believe what they say, they just know it'll rile people up.

    Whereas eggcream is sincere.
  • sweet tea wrote: i'd hate to be responsible for some of the things those around me say.

i think lots of people are in a position of not agreeing with everything their pastor (etc.) says. (incidentally: this is part of why i think it's so stupid of many democrats to insult and otherwise write off church-goers. but that's another soapbox for another day.)
Considering someone your Mentor, of 20 years, is not the same as having some friends around who say some things you disagree with. His "mentor" baptized his kids, married Barry and his wife and he titles his book after one of his sermons.

Democrats only insult Catholics and their religion. Everyone else gets a pass but yes that is a debate for another day.

hardly a close friend for 20 years

you are clearly not interested in actual discussion. so keep trollin, my friend.

    Right, I'm a troll if I don't want a racist for President.
So where are your anti-von Kahn statements? I haven't seen them.

    Okay, Whatever.

He calls himself Barry and did growing up.
It's just funny that so many conservatives are obsessed with his name becuase it isn't "smith" or Johnson, etc. It's as if they are trying to make it negative ( That is why McCain denounced that idiot Bill Cunningham during the rally for doing the same thing).

That would be like me repeating that Hillary is a woman - A WOMAN, She is a WOMAN!!!

And then saying, "What? She is A WOMAN, why are you offended by it...?."
It's stupid and it makes people seem so small minded and ignorant.

    McCain is OLD.
But people dont go around saying "OLD McCain".
You just sound like an assh*le - even if you hate McCain.

And for the record, isn't it Jeremiah Right who threw Obama "under the bus"?

Why are people getting this so wrong.
Obama gave a speech saying he couldn't disown Wright just like he couldn't disown members of his family...He stood up for him. he humanized Wright.

Then Wright comes out and says even worse things and makes a COMPLETE fool of himself. It is HE who threw BARRACK under the bus and not the other way around, people. get a grip. Jeremiah Wright is retiring to a phat house worth millions and had no reason to come out of the closet.

Why are people getting this one so wrong????
    Short memories or what?
Did they listen to the Philly speech by Barrack?
  • And while we are on the subject of guilt by association for Obama,
Why is Hillary Clinton's association of one of the most NOTORIOUS womanizers and liars not taken in to account:

    Bill Clinton

She stayed in a (politically expedient) relationship even when she knew he was screwing around on her, disrespecting HER and her daughter and women in general.

Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaddrick , Gennifer Flowers, Elizabeth Ward Gracen, Sally Perdue and Dolly Kyle Browning...

    Were they ALL liars?

She spent part of her career trying to destroy these women.
Why are her morals, ethics and judgment not coming in to play here?
Why did SHE not walk out on Bill with all of his antics?
(I think we know the answer)

Yes, you CAN choose your pastor AND your husband, Mrs. Clinton?
Why didn't you walk out of the "Church" of Clinton as you claim Obama should have?

She (and her supporters) are so full of sh*t on this topic.
I am making the arguement her relationship with Bill is a bigger "tell" and issue for her than Obama's relationship with Wright.
  • SevenOneEighty wrote: And while we are on the subject of guilt by association for Obama,

Hell, why isn't MCCAIN'S association taken into account? McCain COURTED the endorsement of one Pastor Hagee, despite the fact that Hagee since came to light as being anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, and believes that Katrina was "God's Judgement on New Orleans." And McCain didn't shun his endorsement even after finding that out.

But no one's taking McCain to task on it. Well -- at least eggcream isn't. He's more interested in talking about "Barry."

...Almost makes me wonder if there isn't some OTHER motivation to his obsession...
  • He's a racist and an idiot:

Barack Obama wants to be president of these 57 United States

Ah, Oregon. The beautiful Northwest. Rain. Trees. Clouds. Rain. Friendly territory for Sen. Barack Obama, the leading contender for the Democratic Party's long-disputed presidential nomination.

"It is wonderful to be back in Oregon," Obama said. "Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."

The Times' conscientious Robin Abcarian thought she heard something different there. She checked her tape recorder. It had captured what he had actually said -- 57 states now. A new Louisiana Purchase that's gone unannounced so far? Was he channeling his inner John Kerry-Heinz 57 personality?
  • is that better or worse than McCain not understanding the difference between sunni and shiite?

    that's what I thought.

sound bite posting eggcream, that's all you do.
  • ...Kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel, there, Eicreme.
  • queencallipygos wrote: ...Kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel, there, Eicreme.
Yeah, it's too much to ask for a presidential candidate to know how many states there are, what was I thinking.

Yesterday the moron mistakenly said we don't have enough arabic interpreters in Afghanistan: ( flag pin on, flag pin off)

"Obama Gaffes on Iraq and Afghanistan

    May 13, 2008 8:27 PM

ABC News' David Wright and Sunlen Miller Report: Sporting a shiny new American flag pin at an appearance in Rush Limbaugh's hometown, Sen. Barack Obama came up with some novel reasons why the U.S. may be struggling in the war in Afghanistan.

"We don't have enough capacity right now to deal with it -- and it's not just the troops," Obama, D-Ill., told a crowd in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Obama posited -- incorrectly -- that Arabic translators deployed in Iraq are needed in Afghanistan -- forgetting, momentarily, that Afghans don't speak Arabic.

"We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then its harder for us to use them in Afghanistan," Obama said.

The vast majority of military translators in both war zones are drawn from the local population.
Naturally they speak the local language. In Iraq, that's Arabic or Kurdish. In Afghanistan, it's any of a half dozen other languages -- including Pashtu, Dari, and Farsi.

No sooner did Obama realize his mistake -- and correct himself -- but he immediately made another.

"We need agricultural specialists in Afghanistan, people who can help them develop other crops than heroin poppies, because the drug trade in Afghanistan is what is driving and financing these terrorist networks. So we need agricultural specialists," he said.

    So far, so good.

"But if we are sending them to Baghdad, they're not in Afghanistan," Obama said.

Iraq has many problems, but encouraging farmers to grow food instead of opium poppies isn't one of them. In Iraq, oil fields not poppy fields are a major source of U.S. technical assistance."
