Co-op Management Companies

they all suck. regardless of who is recommended ask them lots and lots and lots of questions (including lawsuits, violations, complaints). i've yet to meet one property manager who remotely looks out for the best interest of the building (your interest) they look out to Cover their Butts, place silly unnecessary restrictions on you instead of working with you to get things done.
you have been warned -
I used to work at Advanced Management Services and they have several property managers that I thought were pretty good (advmgt.com)
On the KWTNeighbors e-mail group someone highly recomended TKR http://www.tkrmgmt.com/
If you live in a small building you'll have your own problems and you might check out the small building suppoort group at the Council of New York Cooperatives & Condominiums http://www.cnyc.coop/events.htm
You can also check for feedback on other management companies at habitatmag.com -
I think there was a recent thread somewhere but it seems Goldin Management is good

TKR stinKs. They hired a super without doing a background check and he was a convicted thief. He stole with the emegency keys to apartments.
We fired him and TKR. -

Well that really sucks. While it is the responsibility of the management company to do this I would first point fingers at the individual managing agent to run the background check and at the coop board for not asking about it.
We hired him and TKR. -
Unless you are a rather large building, I don't see the need for a management company personally. We are a 7 unit building and get along without one just fine. Maybe we are odd.

Subject: Any newer recomendations?
We are a co-op in Prospect Heights and we are looking for a managing agent for our 35 unit building. Is there anyone in this neighborhood, with this size building, who is happy with their agent?
Julie on St. Johns. -
