Crown Heights Creative — Brooklynian

Crown Heights Creative

hi,
i've been wanting to do this in every neighborhood i moved into, but haven't got a chance.

is anyone in the area interested in forming an informal collective to:
1) work on projects, small or big, long or short, planned or spontaneous
2) share inspirations/tips/tricks/movies/books/music
3) hang out (for a purpose or not)
4) get feedback on projects/ideas/questions

i suppose the main idea is a creative community, regardless of specific field of expertise. you don't even need the skills, just be genuinely interested. i always get involved in too many spontaneous, solo projects, and realize that those would be lot more feasible if there was a group to support it.

ps. this group is meant to exist in the physical world, like in the good old days. that is, it won't be a primarily online group because that would be no fun.

  • Hi. I'm interested! My name's Zach and I do all kinds of crafty things from screen printing and bookbinding to music to video to web to photography. I'll be kind of unavailable all summer, but I would love to start something more official in September. I've been thinking about something like this for a while, too.
  • Hi there! I am also very interested in this. I would especially love to engage the children of this community in artistic projects - like maybe a neighborhood video or photography project. I'm not a recognized artist by any stretch, but I've done some short videos, collage work, and I am currently studying Brazilian percussion.

Anyway, keep us posted! I'm around in the summer.
  • You can count me in. I'm a performer, composer and writer. My availability for specific projects tends to go up and down depending on my work load. A little bird tells me I might be very busy in July, but otherwise, I should be generally free to contribute.
  • yes. PM me.
  • Yes, I would love to be involved and to meet other artists in the neighborhood. I'm a photographer (www.enidcrow.com).
  • Yes, please! I'm a bookbinder & letterpress printer - and would be very interested to learn what other people in the area are up to!

  • Miss Bookbinder,

You are a talent! I love your Web site. What pretty things you make!
  • Count me in! Twice! (Oh, do I still qualify if I technically live on the BedStuy/Crown Heights border?)

I'm a writer and voiceover artist who's been sort of dreaming about something like this ever since I moved here, but I'd begun to think it a bit impossible. Craigslist hasn't helped.

Like you, hoovesontheturf, I'm a big starter. I have so many fragmented projects that I vacillate between, it's no wonder I had vertigo last week (really).

I believe in synergy. It's one of those things this world could use a little more of. I know mine could.

Let me know when you're ready to plan/meet/move.
