What is Chicklynian?

how bout we talk about girl only singers and bands. i only listen to mostly girl singers and bands
. -
one good thing about a message board like this, it won't turn into a sausage fest, hope not.
-
i used to love lurking on this predominantly dyke-centric messageboard when i was living in london http://boards.gingerbeer.co.uk -- and when i saw this thread, that's what immediately came to mind!
and i second the name change

I like it. I thought it was more like a "take back ownership of the epithet" vibe. -
will there be a penisian also? I love to talk cock.
-
Nothing much useful to add actually, but I've been offline for awhile now due to a move and this thread really made me laugh and remember why I missed the internet so much
-
FWIW, Chicklynian doesn't bother me, and I like the spoof on the site name. But I suppose we could call it "Womynian."
-
The name sticks. Sorry to those who hate it (now I'm offended).
(not really, just going with the feminist theme).
Heard this this morning...
How many feminists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: THAT'S NOT FUNNY!!! -
Whether Chicklynian takes flight or not (pun intended!), I'm thoroughly enjoying what's it's started so far.
It seems like a slightly easier way to find threads the search feature can't find sometimes, if only because there is less content to search through so far.
Can old, Chicklynian worthy threads be moved here? -
for what it's worth, the eyebrow threading thread (teehee) seemed like exactly the type of usage envisioned for Chicklynian

I'm not sold on this. I've seen women-only spaces work very well on other boards, but it only worked because only women had access to it. (Men would have their own men-only space.) They worked because they were black-hole forums. What was said there, stayed there.
It doesn't make sense to have a women's space here that men have free access to. As SweetTea said, if you don't want boys seeing your tampon post, this isn't the place to post it. I just had an audition for a bra industrial and I got the audition notice at work, so my bra size became public discussion. This sort of stuff happens and if you're that squeamish about your girly parts, this isn't the place to discuss it.
I'm not a girly girl. I'm not at ALL crafty. I'm Martha Stewart's worst nightmare. (I can cook well, but so can a lot of men.) I'd rather talk gadgets with boys.
But isn't that what we're supposed to be moving AWAY from in this day and age? Or are we still banishing girls to the kitchen while the boys discuss Important Stuff in the living room? Since when, as SweetTea so aptly put it, is uphostelry gendered?
Have a crafty forum, have a salon forum, have a shoe-shopping forum, but a women's only space only makes sense if the other gender isn't allowed. And of course, if men have their own mens-only space to be fair. -

Sigh. Well, I wish you all the best! -

I like it too. It's not degrading at all. -
We should call the board Swandive.

Now I get it! #-o You're mean, but funny. -
I was rendered virtually speechless when this board debuted. But in the ensuing days I have regained the use of my keyboard vocal chords. I suppose the creation of a board like this is the most contemporary display of post-feminist expression.
I can't help wondering if in fact this board wasn't created by a man.
In any event, if this board name sticks, you come a long way baby!

One good thing that has come from thread/title is that i am suddenly very curious to understand the etymology of the words "chick" and "bird" and how they came to be a substitute for "women".
Is it because birds have very strong breast muscles ?
Is it because birds "spread their wings" ?
Is it a reference to womens makeup, garments and intricate hair-do's ?
(ie - plumage ?)
i just dont get it...
Much to my surprise, I have had to rethink certain conlusions.
I now realize,
brooklynian CAN inspire intelligent thought.
and is not solely intended for people who have never heard of google.
speaking of which, can anyone tell me where a bank is in park slope ?

well, my two cents: It's a fun idea, I mean, there's been a lot of good-humored joking on this new board and a whole lot of fun sillyness. I did feel it brought forward some female lurkers and we will have an awesome ladies night next thursday because of this board, but in reality you end up getting the boys posting here, and some people are getting upset, and yeah, maybe we don't need a female only board (maybe our own website instead!?), maybe we just need to bring more girl power into the lounge or the "beyond" board, or maybe make a Health/Lifestyle board?? so in the end will the chicks board only tear us all apart??
But then again, I never trust a run-on sentence. -

Love it, Mamacita. I would much prefer to see a Health forum and a Beauty forum, maybe some others like home furnishing. It would remove the whole, "is this a chick topic or something guys would be interested in too?" The whole separate chick forum doesn't sit well with me, maybe because I've never been much of a girly girl.
But then again, I never trust a run-on sentence. -

Right on! I might just borrow this for a sig, Mama. Ok?
I've been on other message boards that have subforums; is that possible on Brooklynian? Because then we could have a Health/Beauty subforum, a home decor subforum, etc. in the Lounge or Brooklyn & Beyond, which might be easier to navigate. -

Oh Daver (and all the other haters), c'mon, grab a seat at the girly bar, and have one on me, ok babe? I want everyone to be relaxed around here, I mean, it's girl oriented, but not girl exclusive. Shit, I'm not trying to seperate people here people, I just wanted to have an option.
And you know, not for nothing, for all the suppossed open-mindedness of some of the people around here, there is so much negativity to the point of oppression! I mean, PLEASE! Chill out!
(I am posting this on the other "What is Chicklynian" thread as well) -
It's a shame that "Brooklnian" is the only message board in existance and because of that, the voices of women, real or imagined, do not get an adequate hearing.
When's the Veginian section opening up? -

Seconded.
I did just that, and after the initial shock of a beer thusly spilled in her lap, the rest of the evening was a real hoot.
(sorry again Whatchu, ... )
Ahhhhh. Good times. -

Ah, yes, just when those images were starting to fade....well, I got a free drink for my troubles! -
Two, if you count the first one.
