Mattera Campaign Denies Mailing Markowitz Parody

Brooklyn - On November 11, thousands of Brooklynites received what appeared to be a parody of Marty Markowitz.

The campaign to elect Gloria Mattera Borough President strenuously denied any involvement. “It is beneath the dignity of this campaign to photoshop a captain’s hat on Marty Markowitz’s head,” declared Colb Hamilton of the Mattera campaign. “I’m not sure who would spend so much money to send out images of the current Borough President with Tony Danza, but we denounce such dirty campaign tactics.”

The word on the street was not so forgiving about the mailing. “Marty has lost tons of shipping jobs. Saying that he’s bringing in ‘boatloads of fun’ is really an insult of working people in Brooklyn,” one disgruntled resident was rumored to have remarked.

Other possible suspects remained unavailable for comment.

Anyone got a reasonably downsized scan to post?
  • I might be able to do it tonight.

I feel really dumb--I saw this, laughed at the Danza picture, and threw it in the recycling bin. Didn't even realize it was a joke. But we haven't taken out the recycling and have a scanner, so possibly we can do it tonight. Might cut into our drinking time, though!
  • I totally don't get it. What does Tony Danza have to do with anything?

    I love you Tony.
  • Mattera shouldn't have bothered denying wasting her time. Marty's going to blow her out of the water in the election anyway.

No way! Angela Bower is totally on Mattera's side!

Captain Steubing is voting for Marty, but Julie is voting for Gloria....

Isaac is undecided but leaning Mattera. Gopher is going Mattera all the way.

Yeah, Julie has been buying coke from Patti Hagan. Isaac is undecided because he thinks he can get a new job when BUILD takes over management of Freddy's, but he's also in negotiations to buy out Half, so we have to wait and see.

(As if DDDb members would get any pop cultural references anyway. Ever since pacific didn't recognize Snoop, I've lost all faith.)
  • Has anyone else seen the ludicrous new Marty Markowitz TV ad with the inane jingle to the tune of the William Tell Overture?

Yeah.. its pretty funny. What would you say Marty does here?

    Vote Gloria
  • Brooklyn Downtown Star endorses Gloria

    The endorsement berates Marty:
Markowitz is more preoccupied with handing out complimentary “Brooklyn” pins, wallowing in the loss of the Brooklyn Dodgers like we are still living in the 1950s, and just all around playing the lovable buffoon than he is with the nuts and bolts of running the borough. His indefatigable desire to make Brooklyn everybody’s favorite city causes him to ignore when things are truly headed in the wrong direction for the people who already love Brooklyn and call it home.

    It also praises Gloria:
She impressed us with her knowledge of the office, her passion for the borough and her vision for the future.
  • fortunately, marty is parody-proof.
  • The flyer is not a parody. I think Raulism was trying to make a joke.

Word. I didn't even get any mail on November 11.
  • Subject: marty's mailer

does anyone else think its telling that Marty's campaign mailers steer totally clear of campaigingin on Atlantic Yards? or has anyone see any of his campaign literature that includes A. yards?
  • so it was a bogus posting of a real ad for a bogus-yet-real candidate.

    nice.

but an even better way to make an anti-markowitz, anti-atlantic yards statement is to vote for gloria mattera on tuesday! kick his butt out of office!
