Madison between Nostrand and Marcy/Bed Stuy

If you walk down that block in broad daylight or early evening, you will definitely get a feel of what that block is like.

I am not sure what type of property you are looking for, but I saw two new constructions for sale on Quincy St., between Nostrand and Bedford. This block is nice and pretty quiet.

Yeah... definitely look into "Stuyvesant Heights"... there aren't any families with children when you get that "far" into Bed Stuy.... :roll:

"Far"??? That makes no sense, no matter which direction you are coming from. And there are plenty of families with kids in my "far reaches" off the Nostrand stop and/or Bedford/Nostrand.

Aside from that I do have to caution against that block. I live nearby and it's not the best block. There are some beautiful, well-tended family homes but the mid-block, questionable buildings spoken of my another poster kind of ruin it for the rest of the block. Of course you should see it for yourself to make your own judgment but if you have doubt it's for good reason. Just my opinion. .

I hope things change on that block because right now I avoid it. But those buildings are pretty big and alot of people live in them. It doesn't look like the vibe of the block will change anytime soon. Madison is fine until you get to Nostrand, it's that block up to Marcy that really blows. There are beat cops stationed on the corner of Nostrand and Madison regularly but that doesn't really do very much. There's alot of police activity on that block and the large amount of plastic drug baggies found strewn on the streets probably has alot to do with it.

That area is only a few blocks away from the Marcy Projects, no? I think they're on Gates and Marcy? So you'd be about 2 blocks away from the projects. I live on Madison and Marcus Garvey so I'm a few blocks away, but when I ride the 52 bus there seems to be a lot of festiveness going on in the area around Marcy and Gates...

In terms of the block changing... I think blocks that are closer to public housing projects may be a little slower to "change".

I concur, that is not a good block. I don't think it's the Marcy projects that is the problem on this block as they are a few blocks away. It's whatever low-income housing it is that's closer to Marcy.

I live on Madison between Bedford and Nostrand and few weeks ago just after midnight we were awakened by what sounded like an angry parade. A huge fight was taking place between teenagers- had to be about 60 kids in the street fighting. It was rather alarming and we called 911. It traveled down Madison and stopped somewhere between Nostrand and Marcy. The police were called but they didn't really do much but drive through it. The fighting stopped for a minute or two and all 60 or some people were just hanging out on the block despite repeated calls to 911. The fight started right back up again. I felt really bad for the people who had that take place right in front of their homes. We are almost 2 blocks from where it happened and it sounded like it was in our living room. Bad vibes.

i originally wrote this - i meant 'far' from the subway. not from families & children "stuygal". i used to live on that side - & i dreaded the walk to and from the subway. IMO the Nostrand Ave stop was horrible - I took it everyday. utica is a much 'quieter' stop.

GUEST who lives on Madison btwn Bedford & Nostrand: I heard what you have described, I live on this block too. I just also heard gunshots on Nostrand about 1/2 hour ago. Send me a private message because I would like to ask you a few questions about the block if you don't mind!

I live on Putnam- between Throop & Tompkins. The houses between Tompkins and Marcy are nice but way to many apartment buildings on that block. So the block is a bit dirty.
I would look at the blocks closer to Fulton. Macon, Hancock & MacDonough are my personal favorites. And they're close to the A on Nostrand. Feel free to email me if you have questions
