I am searching for fresh tortillas (flour and corn) in or near the slope. any suggestions? thanks!

Comments

  • no existe
although palo santo makes 'em fresh, it's part of fancy dinner
  • Surprisingly, Union Market has very good flour tortillas.
  • I posted this same search a year or so ago and got some good tamale suggestions, but no fresh tortillas.

I ended up buying the corn tortillas at Union Market. Not great, but not as bad as the dried-out machine-cut diskoids otherwise available at most stores.

Love to hear any other suggestions!
  • Here I was thinking someone was looking for a Fresco Tortillas place, of which there are a million in the slope...... :)
  • this is the kind of thread that makes me miss texas. and really, it takes a lot to make me miss texas.

see if you can get taqueria matamoros to sell you some of the corn tortillas. delish
  • i just read this in an article in the NYT about Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene:
Starting June 1, Hot Bread Kitchen, which “honors the culinary experience of immigrant women and provides entrepreneurial and job skills,” according to its site, hotbreadkitchen.org, will do so at the Flea by selling some of the best tortillas ($5 for eight) and crisp lavash chips ($4 for a 4-ounce bag) in the city.
i know it's not the slope, but it may be worthy of a visit for your tortillas fix!
  • $5 for 8 corn tortillas?

Don't let my mom in East LA know, she'd have a heart attack. She freeked out when I told her the price of tomatillos over here. She practically demanded I move back home

I'll check them out though, I miss fresh tortillas.
  • I make my own. Very simple and you can get a tortilla press cheap at the 99-cent store on 5th ave and 16th.
  • I was flabbergasted by the $5 price for 8 tortillas. Come on, we're talking about flour, water and salt. Although I miss great tortillas, this is highway robbery.
