Bed Stuy YMCA question
Hi, I was wondering if any of you are members of the Bed Stuy YMCA and might be able to help clarify something for me. I would love to join this location since it's the closest gym to where I live, but I'll also want to be able to use the location right around the corner from my job in Manhattan. Could anyone clarify the cost of this for me? The website of the Vanderbilt Y says that the monthly membership that allows you to use all locations is $90/month and the Bed Stuy website says it's only $40. I know I could call to ask, but I wanted to check with you guys first. The Y is probably different, but I know other gyms can be super pushy about their membership costs and that intimidates me. I like to know what I'm dealing with ahead of time! Thanks!

I am a member of the Bedford YMCA but I don't know about the membership that affords you the opportunity to use multiple locations. I pay $40/month but I receive a discount because I have Oxford health insurance and that takes it down to $31/month. Yes, they take various health insurance plans and give a 20% discount. But as for your specific needs you should just suck it up and call them or even drop in. They're very helpful.

The BedStuy stuff says $90/month for citywide too. It is on page 25:

Different locations have different membership fees (ie - the Park Slope Y is $90 per mo, the Greenpoint one is $40 per mo, as is Bed Stuy). If I understand correctly, when you join any Y, you are permitted up to 12 visits to other Ys throughout the city if you have your card with you, regardless of what your 'home Y' is.
I joined the Bed Stuy Y at the new year and I think it's great. The machines and classes are good, it's rarely 'too' crowded to work out and the machines are fairly new. -
And PS --- they're super nice there, unlike other 'pushy' gyms. I know what you mean - they're not like that at the Y, they're just nice and helpful.
