Random trashy questions
1. What's up with all the plastic gloves discarded in the neighborhood? Are they part of a "safe iv drug use" kit?
2. How do people feel about taping notices to light poles? I hate them - especially the ones which promise to clean my house while littering my neighborhood. My boyfriend waits patiently as I stop to strip poles as I walk in the neighborhoods (oh the puns inherent in that sentence!). My son wants to join in, but at 50 inches he can't quite reach them. Perhaps others wish to join in this random crusade? Or perhaps some see value in having three "Movers" posters plastered one on top of the other?

Hmm. I'd never thought about flyers on light poles. I don't love 'em, but I feel like they're a decent form of neighborhood communication.
I'm more pissed about the plastic used in advertising (circulars) than I am about this. At least the flyers on the light poles are biodegradable. -
I like flyers on light posts and find it amusing in a very sad way that you complain about this.
-
Alas, you are correct. I lead a sad sad life. But with help from kind folks like "guest" 5:25, I can learn to be snarky on message boards instead of cleaning up my block.
Moving on - any guesses on the the plastic gloves? -
Flyers on light post don't bother me. I actually think they're kind of quaint, like a homemade/low-tech way of communicating. I'm much more bothered by the littering and garbage on the streets.

Guess it is just a pet peeve of mine. In my area they tend to be the same commercial adverts taped up again and again - nothing old school about them. But it brings me joy to strip them down. So little joy in this world...

I see people donning those rubber gloves to pick up trash from trash bags that have been ripped-open overnight. This begs the question, however- why pick up trash only to take your gloves off and throw them on the ground?
Lately I've noticed those little floss-picks strewn around the sidewalks of the neighborhood. And lots of condom wrappers- Spring is finally here.
I can't say I share your stance on light post posters, though... I kinda like them. -
Just to be clear I am speaking of the commercial advertisements for moving companies and cleaning services, not the "lost cat" "Super-Dooper Stoop Sale" etc. I've noticed that some blocks seem to have bulletin boards for such announcements. Wouldn't it be neat if there were something like that on the web?
...oh right. -
Most of the pole signs in my area are the commercial type ones. They don't really bother me though.
What is the legality of such notices, I wonder?
I have no idea about the rubber gloves, has stop-and-frisk progressed (degenerated?) to full-body-cavity-search already?
Oh, and I haven't noticed any such gloves in my area.
Thankfully. -

Haven't noticed the former, but have notice an upswing in the latter.
The juxtaposition of these two cast offs - coincidence?
I think there is an old joke in there somewhere involving corn. -

It is illegal to post on lightpoles etc. Didn't bother raising that because so many things which are illegal don't bother me at all, and visa versa.

Clearly I am alone in my ocd around this "problem." Oh, well... -
Weirdest garbage I see (every day!) in Bed-Stuy: cellophane from individually wrapped Swedish Fish. Individually wrapped! Daily!
-
That's from the bodega candy that the children buy. It's like 5 or 10 cents per Swedish fish.
Howdy, Stranger!
