South slope food update... new japanese place Ten and more!

Fyi- the former Layla (sp) spot has turned into...you guessed it...another Kikuesque japanese place called Ten, complete with sushi lunch specials and bento boxes. It opens on the 16th and the decor seems pretty kickin, while the menu looks kind of unexciting. We'll check it out I'm sure since it's across the street and I'll report back.

In an unrelated note, Little D's backyard is open and its pretty nice.

On yet another unrelated note, the old Cafe 11 space (on 7th bt 11-12 I think, maybe 10-11, yellow awning) IS in fact turning into a winebar from the people who own Big Nose, Full Body (this may be a late pass but I thought people might want to know)...however the residents of the building caught wind of the backyard open-till-1 plan and some are doing everything in their power to stop the development (including a couple who is threatening legal action of some sort.) So we'll see how that all pans out...if anyone lives in that building I'd love to hear the latest.

This has been your south slope food report...

  • Wow carmen, you live right by me. Ten is across from me too (well, technically Bar 4 is, but still).

Oh, and yes, Ten's menu does not look very unique :-(
I feel like I can now walk to some 4 different sushi places in less than 5 minutes from my place. wowzers.
  • Ha! I just took walk and picked up Ten's menu along the way.. Not very unique, but I'm more interested in how it tastes
  • I live across from bar4! Maybe we're in the same building!
  • I also noticed a new place going in at 16th and 7th... looks like a former ground floor residence is being changed (back) to commercial. Any idea what it's going to be? Happy to see the retail creeping south...
  • ^What side of the street? I'm one of those "go poke my head in and ask whats up" people so if you tell me where it is I'll go check it out :)

I beat you. I can make it to Ha Na Bi, Kiku, Tamari, Blue Ribbon, Yamato, Oshima, Nana, Jpan, Picaso in less than 5 minutes from my place. It's kind of sushi overkill, but given the choice, I'd rather have a feast than a famine.

I like that way of thinking...
  • Amendment- I had the dates wrong, Ten opens today. I might get lunch there, check out the sushi quality. It'll be really tough to beat Kikus lunch special...
  • the new place is on the west side of the street. thanks!!
  • I think it's that South American performance space/food and drink spot that is being converted slowly - right?
