Boy fight on Prospect Ave last night?
Did anyone else hear/see the fight last night by 7th and prospect ave? I guess it started at around 10:30pm and then stopped and started a few more times until like midnight. It was pretty scary sounding - low manly voices yelling and some guys crying for help and sounds of punching and kicking and stuff. I walked by and then heard it from my window off and on. Every time I went to call the cops it would stop and they would leave, and then come back later. Anyone else see/hear it? Would you have called the cops anyway?

I woulda called the cops the first time. someone could have required medical attention. in fact, you should call the cops now. -
That's the kind of situation where you always call the cops. Most likely they didn't go far and would be found.
Why do people have such an aversion to dialing 911 to report things? It is the only way our neighborhoods will get safer, and according to a local police officer whom I have spoken with at length, they want people to call in for ANY illegal activity from dogs off leash to fights like this. As Nike used to say, just do it. -
Would you have called 911 or the precinct?
-
911- it is faster and they forward to the precinct. If a car from another precinct is closer they will send them, etc., thereby making a speedier response.

I didn't hear it but I'm on 6th. I would have called the cops anyway. Then again, I'm like that. I would hate to take the chance of not having called the cops when I should have. -
I did read correctly where you stated that a guy was crying for help right? And you didnt call police?
-
Yes, he was, but honestly I couldn't tell if it was a real "help" or not. It could have just been drunk guys horsing around, it could have been a gang thing, I don't know. I work with teenagers and the boys get so riled up in the springtime and the fights end up usually being nothing....... I didn't want to overreact.

I think when you call 911 they will send fire, police, and ambulance so I would maybe just call the 78th precinct. It's probably a good idea to program it into your phone anyway just in case: (718) 636-6411

Yikes. I'm on Prospect between 7th and 6th and didn't hear anything.

Last night they were at it again, between 9 and 10:30. My roommate walked by early on and noticed that there was a lighting system set up like for a movie, and two of the guys had camcorders. Whew.

They don't send the big three unless it's an unclear emergency. I've called 911 for suspicious activity in a bodega when it was closed, and for drunk guys who can't get up. I used to call 311 for the drunk guys, but they just forwarded me to 911.
If you're not sure if it's an emergency or stupid people horsing around, just preface it with "I'm not sure..." and let them make the call. -

I'd call 911 on them anyway, just for being assholes and freaking everyone out.

Last night I said I was going to call the cops if they continued past 10:30 but luckily they stopped then.
