Do you ride the train? Subway Search Survey Aug 8 - 14
I-Witness Video is running a subway rider survey this week (more on the group below.)
If you are searched, or see a search at a station this week, please make a note of the date/time/station/location.
At the end of the week, email the info to [email protected]
If you're REALLY into it, note ALL your subway use on the form below and send it in -- it's useful to know how many stations are not being searched too. Your participation would be appreciated.
Survey is Monday Aug 8 - through Sunday Aug 14.
It's like the Great American Bird Count for subway citizens...
THANKS!

Subject: Pls. fwd.- Subway Search Survey
I-Witness Video is coordinating a survey to gather information about the
New York Police Department’s new policy of searching subway riders.
During the week of August 8th until August 14th we are asking subway
riders to jot down the stations where they have entered the subway and if they have witnessed a search.  At the end of the week please send your notes to [email protected] .
I-Witness Video coordinated the video documentation of the protests and
arrest at the Republican National Convention last summer.  The I-Witness Video RNC project used video as the basis for investigation into the arrests of activists and bystanders, directly resulting in over 400 dismissals and acquittals.
For each day please log any stations you have entered,
and specify whether or not you have witnessed a search at that location.
Please also note the time of day.

Are they still doing these searches? I have not been on the subway in years, but was thinking about taking a trip this weekend.
-
I see occasional searches in stations still. I take the subway at least twice a day, I can think of twice that I have been searched in the last year. Once on the #1 at South Ferry, and once on the #4 at Bowling Green. More often you see the tables set up with cops just standing there watching people. I assume they search suspicious folk in these cases.
-
I got stopped by those cops and searched once a few weekends ago at the Atlantic stop. Well, "searched" is a loose term for it. I was carrying a tote bag in addition to my purse and they ran a piece of paper over one tiny place on the outside of both bags, touched the paper to a scanner and that was it.
-
A few years ago, a cell phone of mine that was stolen was actually recovered via a random search. They stopped this dude, searched his bag and found over a dozen cell phones. Of course, that aroused suspicion and it was discovered that all of those phones were stolen.
-
they are in the 34th st station for the B,D,F,v n,r,q,w a few times a week.
it's bs if you ask me. -
