Everybody Wants My Pussy!

Ha...made you look.....

But seriously....

I live on the first floor of a brownstone. My bedroom windows look out onto my yard. I have 2 cats (see cute avatar). Since I moved here 6 months ago, I've had a variety of visiting kitties from neighboring yards. I'm not sure who owns any of them - although most have collars and don't seem to be strays.

The problem is one cat who seems to "want" my Stella (she's fixed). He comes to the window and howls and she hates him. She runs smack into the window charging at him and hissing. Then there's a howl-off. Problem is it's happened at 5am a few times. Wakes me up, must wake the neighbors up too.

Last night at 4:19am, I woke up to a crying cat. Of course Stella runs to the window (Jackson just gets poofy and looks concerned) and there's an orange cat (I think) sitting in my window. I've never seen this one before.

Any suggestions on how to discourage these cats? The one who wants Stella isn't scared of shit. I've already yelled at him, thrown things near him (of course not AT him), sprayed him with water, etc.

  • Spray that cat repelling stuff on the outside on the window. Cayenne pepper. Although I suppose it would have gotten rinsed off last night.
  • one word

    Supersoaker
  • I'm telling you, this black cat who is after Stella is NOT easily deterred. She's so cute, I can't blame him :-)

I think I'll try the cayenne pepper thing. Thanks, Daver
  • On the other side: You have control over your kitties as opposed to the strays. Get some blinds/curtains... don't let your cat go to the window at night. Keep them on the other side of the apartment at night. Heat season will be over soon enough. I mean, remove your cat from the window and you remove the problem. The feral will get the point and move on.
  • I have curtains and the cats still go behind them. I thought about keeping my cats out of the bedroom, but I really like snuggling with them, and I think they'd cry on the other side of my door and keep me awake anyway.
  • I know it sucks because natural lighting is teh awesome, but you might want to buy some tissue paper or something and tape up the window for a couple weeks? anyways... that's all I can think of.
  • Stella doesn't even need to see the boy cat ...I think she hears his collar/tags and she runs smack into the window ready to kick his ass.

I wonder if I need to BUY that cayenne spray or if I can just put some cayenne pepper in water and spray it. Hmmmm. I already have cayenne pepper, so that's a free solution if it works
  • Crazy cat was back at 4:25AM. My cats were nowhere near the window when it started meowing.

I put a bunch of cayenne pepper on the window sill today. Let's see if that helps. I'm tired! Kitties need to knock it off
  • Thanks, Caseo.

I can't say for sure that it was from the cayenne pepper, but no kitty visitors last night.
  • I doubt that the male cat is neutered. I imagine neutering him will take care of all of this. If you need to borrow a trap, PM me.
  • thanks....the new (orange) one has not been back since I put the pepper down. Not sure if that's coincidence.

The other one I think is just curious. He belongs to somebody as he wears a collar, so I can't trap and neuter him
  • ah, crap, I jinxed it. A big orange kitty on the fence to my yard. Both of my cats looking a him and getting poofy, but no crazy howl-off.

This kitty looks cute and scared and has half of one ear missing. Poor boo boo. Let's see if he comes back. He could be the one who was at my window - at 4:19am with no glasses on, all orange cats look the same :-)
  • Hey Flexicheck, half an ear missing could mean that he's been eartipped. When people trap and neuter ferals we snip off the tip of their ear so that we know they've already been done. Does the cat that's bothering your cat have his ear tipped?

  • Thanks, Lulu's Momma. I know about ear-tipping, but this looks more like he lost it in a fight.

He was gone for a while, but came by the other day.
