On Reaching Puberty in Brooklyn... — Brooklynian

On Reaching Puberty in Brooklyn...

Yikes - I wish I could get the Times to let me respond to this in 10,000 words

This is just awful - high school mentality and naivete descends on NYC with newly acquired therapist in hand and scripted bad choices in men - writes for no-conscience bad blog, exposes too much of everything, now feels guilt, ennui, and blossoming fulfillment.

Only in New York kids, only in New York...

  • Why is that story so long! Yuck, I read the first couple paragraphs and closed the page. The pics of her really turned me off. So self involved.
  • I agree, mamacita. I lost interest after 3-4 paragraphs. The NYT magazine has about one or two interesting stories a year, but is otherwise a piece of s***.
  • is she a suicide girl?
  • The clip where she gets owned by Jimmy Kimmel:

  • amazing. i love so so much that he told her she belongs in hell.
  • Carni - thanks for posting the clip - she's even worse in person than in print. I wonder if the school she attended teaches values? At the risk of sounding slightly misogynistic, I wish I were her boyfriend so I could dump her.
  • "I just want you to think about your life. Weigh your options."

    Awesome
  • Looks like she's looking to provide some competition for Amy Winehouse in the "Butt-ugliest tats" category.
  • hahaha that was awesome! did anyone notice the ads scrolling at the bottom? were they trying to insinuate that she is a dog?
  • She's a tard, but so is Kimmel with the whole panties in a bunch bit. People say shit about people all the time. Just because somebody says something doesn't necessarily make it so, and getting all butt-hurt about it is pointless.
  • Kimmel's a girl and a bully.
  • I read the article, and was disgusted. Anyone who wouldn't respect her partner's request that she not blog about him on the grounds that she "has a right" to express herself is too self-centered for words.

She needs to stop flashing between various expression of bewilderment so frequently...
  • i don't see what's so terrible about the article. i thought it was interesting to hear some reflection from a person who's gotten wrapped up in the full-disclosure blog world. (i did used to read gawker, so i did have some sense of who the author was already. that may have made this more interesting to me.)

i didn't watch the clip, but she does say in the piece that she did a bad job. likewise, it seems to me that she's somewhat chagrined by her earlier online behavior.
