the gambling, debauchery and drinking on the street are the best bits vegas has to offer, really. I think their statue of liberty is a little frumpy. -

Well, I certainly wouldn't go there to see it, but it beats their Brooklyn Bridge hands down.
I saw some good shows last time I was there. There was a cheap one with all rescue animals that were trained. It was amazing. Penn and Teller. What can one say about that? Jubilee is pretty classic. No implants or tattoos either, which is refreshing. Umm... The free pirates thing thing has gotten pretty racy, still busy as all hell.
I was Not Drinking the last time I was there, but I still had a surprisingly good time. With a group of heavy drinkers to entertain me. -

hehe. I just came back from there. As Anthony Bourdain said, they should have a sign warning actual New Yorkers that it may be slightly frightening.
xoxoxo
Oh, and I'm very angry I didn't know Prince is playing in town. Grrrrr. Alafairnadia, you should go! -

Sounds awesome! As long as it doesn't interfere with bacon martinis and ass juice.

oh and ... nyny is a hilarious hotel. it's so bad. last time I was there, however, it appeared they'd corrected some of the more obnoxious stereotypical signage in their faux-manhattan/food court area. several years ago I recall the bail bondsman office being a hispanic name, the lawyers being jews, and the laundry being chinese. (yes, they're all fake storefronts to invoke a newyorkesque feel) -

wait. it appears that prince is not yet happening. you're talking about fri/sat at 3121 in the rio? I'm seeing vague announcements but nothing concrete on the rio's website. am I dumb? -

Hmmm. I think you're right. My friend just told me this today, and I guess he was totally wrong. Now he owes me a beer for getting me all worked up.
:x
Well you could always go to the Prince Tribute. haha.

I can't believe you phrased that statement in the form of a question.
OF COURSE YOU FUCKING DO! -

the thing that scared me when I went, though, was -- they also had fake apartment fronts mixed in with the storefronts; doors that led nowhere, they were just set pieces.
But attached to one of the fake doors on the fake apartment-fronts was a hand-made "No Menus" sign that had been made with magic marker scrawled on an ACTUAL, GENUINE EMPIRE SZECHUAN GREENWICH takeout menu.
Maybe only 1% of the visitors would have gotten that reference, but there it was. Someone REALLY, REALLY tried to do their homework. -

Absolutely, if they're not sold out. -

heh. I'm planning to play a lot of poker. if all goes well, I'll have a decent bankroll. but, given my last several tournaments and the lack of cards to back up my outrageous bluffing skillz, I'm not sure what's going to happen. I'm more just resigned to blowing a grand, minimum, in a few days and loving the entire experience. I love vegas.
(yes, I think I'm going to end every post, sentence, phrase, transaction, whatever with a declaration of "I love vegas") -

and a pretty creepy guy I know likes to hang out there. everything is better in vegas except, of course, their rendition of NY. -

Oh my Gawd! Everything is _SO_ not better in Vegas!
It is differently abled.
And I find Vegas tourists to be (GASP!) _worse_ than the NYC ones. Especially when it comes to getting in my way. Damn people, it is a sideWALK, goddamn it! Among other things. -

In front of the Paris casino, a bunch of tourists gasped when I crossed an intersection during the "no walk" light. Like I was twirling a baton of fire or something. I even heard one hawaiian shirt-clad old guy mutter "That was stupid." hehehe.

You and I should meet. Last time I was there a stupid casino had a pair of guys standing on either side of the walkway handing coupons for drinks or slot money or some damn thing to folks walking past. Many tourist folk were pushed to the middle, out of their reach, unwilling to have the coupons thrust at them. As a veteran of having unwanted shit thrust at me daily walking through Times Square, I of course took advantage of the empty passing lane between the herd and the hawkers, pushing through an outstretched arm hopefully thrusting a coupon at me in the process.
Chaos ensues. Hawker dude got _pissed_. Which of course I wouldn't have even noticed, since I was tuned out, nay, I never tuned into him. But my compatriots tapped me and mentioned that the dude was still yelling at me like 15-20 feet down the sidewalk. I turned around and he was livid pissed hollering about me pushing him and shit. All the tourists mouths made big/little O's, like that tag line now missing beneath someone's avatar.
WTF? "Well, _that_ was pretty rude!" Well fucking A, had he not been STANDING in the fucking WALKWAY, then I wouldn't have been WALKING through him, now would I have been? Hmm? And this is somehow my fault? Like I am supposed to get in the cattle line to squeeze through the middle between the hawkers? Fuck that. -

There is definitely something weird about that place--but its definitely amplified by the people visiting. The way people move around combined with the whole escalators/walkways instead of crosswalks, and with the assbackwards ways of getting from point A to point B was very disorientating for me. I'm too used to walking in straight lines and crossing on the street instead of above it.
I guess I should have gone there with more of a purpose of drinking or gambling to center myself in the atmosphere. (I was just in town visiting my dad while he works there for a few more weeks) -
the cabbies in vegas are 100x more awesome than the cabbies in nyc. first of all, they talk a bunch of shit. second, they'll break a million traffic laws to get you where you want to go. third, they are all fetishistic, horny freaks and apparently like ethiopian food.
god. I miss vegas already. -
