haircuts in ft. greene area

Anybody know a place for a regular guy hair cut in Ft. Greene. Nothing fancy but mostly I don't want to be the first white dude ever to step foot in the place. Nothing racist...just different hair ya know!!

  • Well, if you're willing to travel a few blocks out of Fort Greene, I love DVIR at DVIR Salon on Bond right off of Atlantic. 718-855-4504.
  • If you dont mind traveling a bit. 456 Myrtle Ave between Washington and Waverly, the Joseph Tyler Salon.
  • Hair? People still have hair? Sigh. I remember when I had hair...

I travel over to Park Slope Barbers on 7th Avenue (223 7th Ave). It's an old school barber shop. $16 for the basics.
  • I usually go to the two places on 4th avenue two blocks past, and across the street from, the Modell's/PC Richards. Lebanese? Don't know, but either place does a decent job and doesn't charge ridiculous sums for cutting hair.
  • My husband goes to see Trevor at Savvy Styles 88 South Portland Ave Between and Lafayette. 718-797-4949

They take appointments which is nice so you don't have to wait too long. He's tried a few places in the 'hood and they took over an hour to cut his hair. This place is fast, and they do a good job.
  • People get sold such a bill of goods when it comes to hair and personal grooming. what more do you need but a brush and a training film from 1948?

I like paying 15 (so I can tip $5), and often avoid places charging more than 20.
  • The wait at most places in the 'hood is part of the experience. This is when guys sit around and talk about current events, sports, women, whatever... Real barbershops don't take appointments. You guys are looking for a salon. Try Time Salon on Greene @ Fulton. They have experience with a variety of hair types and take appointments. FYI, black people don't all have the same type of hair so don't be scared just because you don't see any white people. Just ask when you walk in the door...
