Junior's
Subject: Junior's
Why doesn't anyone ever mention Junior's? I originally went there about 15 years ago to check out the legendary cheesecake. Now my wife and I go there at least once a month for the food. Steaks and chops aside (and they are good, they do good comfort food. The fried chicken and fried catfish have never dissapointed, they make a hell of a brisket, and for dessert, I defy you to find a better peach pie north of the Mason Dixon line.Comments

There is nothing special about juniors
-
i've been there once, and my food was terrible.
i'm sure i ordered badly. i wouldn't object to going again, but that's why i'm not raving about the place. -
The food was better years ago. I still wait in line during the holidays though for that cheesecake.

Juniors has great burgers. And some decent dishes. I think in general they suffer from the same problem as a lot of diners. Too many menu items so the good stuff gets burried in a sea of mediocrity.
That having been said I will still die before I let anyone touch my Junior's black & white sundae, the chocolate and yellow layer cake, or their cheeseburgers. -
Subject: Who Can Forget Their Cheesecake
Juniors Cheesecake Rules in Brooklyn.
Being in my middle 50's, I can still remember my first time having their cheesecake that my grandmother brought home.
And also, remember stopping their with my mother after shopping in Martin's, A&S and also Coward's Shoes on Fulton Street.
I remember my wife meeting her co-workers there after they met couple weeks after 9-11, they worked in Wall Street.
If I get a chance and am in the area, I do attempt to stop in this traditional landmark of Downtown Brooklyn. -
Dyker....you just took me down memory lane with the mention of those stores. Oh my, I remember shopping at Martin's and Korvettes,McCrory's,May's Dept store and Cowards followed by a trip to Juniors. They had the best pickles and beets .Funny, we went for the flounder and chips. Never tried the cheesecake till we were adults. Those were the days.

Junior's has been a hole since the fire of '82. Breakfast is decent but order off the lunch or dinner menu and you put your life in their hands. You want great brisket and fried chicken in Brooklyn? Go to David's on Nostrand and Herkimer, and Saratoga Kitchen on Saratoga and Atlantic respectively.
-
Also, dont bother going to Juniors in Grand Central (in the bottom floor food court). Like most of the other eateries there, the food is at least 2 days old. I tried it 3 times, and each time felt really sick afterwards.
Juniors (which, interestingly, as the old-timers will tell you, used to be segregated back in the day) Bkn is still good for 3am dining when everything else is shut tho.

ooo, i'll have to check it out. what should i order? -
I'm a big fan of their corned beef and brisket. Saying this, the guy behind the counter has no problem letting you sample practically everything he has to make a choice. His mac n' cheese isn't bad either.

I've worked in the downtown Brooklyn area since 1979 and I've only eaten there a few times. The food is mediocre at best, the counter service has been terrible and IMHO their cheese cake is overrated. It seems to be a fairly popular place and their bakery appears to be busy esp. around holidays but I can't figure it out. Maybe it's because there are few other choices in the immediate area. -
Junior's supports Bruce Ratner's misguided Atlantic Yards project. Marty and Bruce have had press conferences there. That's the clincher for me. From the reviews here it doesn't sound like I am missing much.
