Hipsters
Seriously, folks - let it go.
Yes, you all hate "hipsters". We get it. But, look at yourselves...there's quite a bit of irony...
One of the reasons for the disapproval is their snobbiness, attitude, etc., but, if you pay attention, you all are putting forth twice as much of those attributes as they are when you're pontificating how much you dislike them.
Geezus. I'm not even a hipster, but I'm seriously thinking of becoming one just to spite some of you.

I'll let you borrow my white belt...

Thank you! Hipsters are annoying because they're snotty and exclusionary and look down on anyone who doesn't share their tastes. Not sure I see a difference.

Doesn't seem so pointless to me. "Hipster" is the slur du jour for the trolls on this site, and it gets tossed around ridiculously often. -

nope. like your original one.
theres just something humorously ironic about posting yet another post on a tired topic urging people to "let it go".
no offense intended. its just a classic internet-forum phenomenon. -
"hipster" is the new "yuppie", just another name for the up and coming in this world, hated by those who are not there yet or those who have been passed by.
Why give a shit if anyone calls you either, they dont know anything about you. -

It's pretty silly though. There's probably like 5 kids that can be pegged as hipsters in the whole neighborhood (1 of which being my asshole neighbor with her devil-possessed dangerous dog) and guess what, they're probably not on DH. I can almost understand "yuppie" getting thrown around as a pejorative, but "hipster?" Not so much. -

I think people are confusing Hipsters with I-don't-know-who. If you want to see a real Hipster in its natural habitat, go to Manhattan and enter Lit bar (2nd ave and 5th street) or Max Fish (Ludlow below Houston) on a Saturday night.
Oh, and this is a Hipster band:

I'm with Candicissima. Have we ever had a troll that seemed remotely hipsterish? To me, it seems like the trolls (who think they are old-school Brooklynites) are accusing the regulars of being hipsters (newcomers/gatecrashers/whatever), and we don't like it because we've seen the hardcore hipsters, and we aren't them. I'd say a lot of us are more like....er......... nerds.

i think people are confusing "hipsters" with "young/white/gentrifiers".
which is silly.
on a completely different tangent, its good to be hip without being a hipster. -

I agree. I definately do not equate hipsters with wealth. When I use the term in real life (i.e. not on this board), I'm referring to white kids in their early twenties who look like the guy in the pic above. Whether they're trust fund babies or are barely scrapping by, they still shop at thrift stores. I don't think of it as a derogatory term, but I do use it in a snide manner.
My friends & I were thought of as hipsters at college in the late '80s. And we definately acted like little "cooler than thou" snots. Then we moved here and started hanging out in the East Village. We just couldn't compete.

ok , I dont have a mesh hat, but you all know (just like me) that you have similar articles of clothing and bottom line you dont if this guys is an alcoholic or doctor. -

Nope, I can actually say with complete certainty that I have no articles of clothing anything remotely like that.

considering the amount of cocaine I saw some hipsters consume at the royal oak in billyburg last weekend, I don't think there's much up or coming for any of them. no booty calls to acquire there.

Those two guys fall into the shrunken t-shirt hipster category. The other is the retro velvet jacket category.

Nah, man. They sell those jackets at Old Navy. They're no longer hip. 8)
