Hipsters

Thank you! Hipsters are annoying because they're snotty and exclusionary and look down on anyone who doesn't share their tastes. Not sure I see a difference.

Doesn't seem so pointless to me. "Hipster" is the slur du jour for the trolls on this site, and it gets tossed around ridiculously often.

"hipster" is the new "yuppie", just another name for the up and coming in this world, hated by those who are not there yet or those who have been passed by.

Why give a shit if anyone calls you either, they dont know anything about you.

I think people are confusing Hipsters with I-don't-know-who. If you want to see a real Hipster in its natural habitat, go to Manhattan and enter Lit bar (2nd ave and 5th street) or Max Fish (Ludlow below Houston) on a Saturday night.

I agree. I definately do not equate hipsters with wealth. When I use the term in real life (i.e. not on this board), I'm referring to white kids in their early twenties who look like the guy in the pic above. Whether they're trust fund babies or are barely scrapping by, they still shop at thrift stores. I don't think of it as a derogatory term, but I do use it in a snide manner.
My friends & I were thought of as hipsters at college in the late '80s. And we definately acted like little "cooler than thou" snots. Then we moved here and started hanging out in the East Village. We just couldn't compete.

Nope, I can actually say with complete certainty that I have no articles of clothing anything remotely like that.

That’s funny because I have the opposite reaction. In part because when I walk around Williamsburg I always wonder who can afford the stuff in all the little hipster boutiques...
