Apertivo — Brooklynian

Apertivo

old time brooklyn
edited November -1 in Park Slope
Went with the wife last night. It was quite good. Simple but well done. We had a great mesclun salad with fresh tomatoes and the crostini with artichoke tapenade to start. Wife had the ragu and I had the chicken rollatini w/mortadella. Then a nice berry tart w/whip cream and a great cappucino for dessert.

BYOB too.

  • I really want to try this place. I know one of the people working there used to work at Circles and I think the owner used to be a partner there as well.
  • Is this the new place on 5th Avenue across from Commerce? My neighbor went there last week and told me it was terrible. haven't tried it myself though.

Aren't they the same people that own Sotto Voce?
  • Yes, they are owned by Sotto Vocce...I have mixed feelings...food is just average...small portions but relatively inexpensive. I'm hoping they improve because it's a nice place and a nice concept
  • they are also opening ANOTHER new place about a block farther down 5th. i believe it's supposed to be open sometime in June. it's the place they're working on across the street from 'snice...
  • They are opening another restaurant across from S'Nice - going to be more family style, and they'll also be serving pizza
  • I went last weekend. It was OK. Quality is about the same as Sotto Voce, which is ever-so-slightly-above average. No liquor license, but they were giving complimentary glasses of house wine, which was very nice. Service still needs work.

I think a place to just have various small italian dishes, antipasti, and wine, for a cheap price is missing from the 'hood, and this certainly fits that. As an italian restaurant, it does nothing to separate itself from the PS pack.
  • Ok-the fact that both of these places are owned by the same people as Sotto Voce will make me not go there. I had gone to Sotto Voce at least 6 times and it was awful every time. I kept going back because the darn place is always busy and I kept thinking it must be me. nope, I think they stink. thanks for the info though.
  • My husband and I went to Aperitivo for brunch (prixe fixe) about 2 weeks ago. The brunch includes mimosa with the meal which is nice. The coffee was decent. The staff was very friendly.

The problems: We were sitting at the back of the restaurant and every time a server walked behind me, the table shook (as did I). The food was mediocre. I had a tuna sandwich (too dry and bland) and my husband had eggs benedict which he recalls being horrible (it looked ok but I didn't taste it).

I really want this place to do well because it's cute and the service is good. But why open a restaurant if you're going to serve mediocre food? I just don't understand.
