Estranged friend is going to abandon cat on my doorstep June
Hello,
I was just informed by an estranged friend that she is going to abandon a cat on my doorstep June 26th that belonged to me and my x 4 years ago.
I am not allowed pets in my apartment and my landlord lives right above me.
We have no lease and I fear that if I disobey him he will ask us and my son to leave.
Does anyone know anyone or want a beautiful calico cat? I have an image but I dont know how where to upload it in this forum, if anyone can assist.
Thanks in advance and please help get the word out.
MOD NOTE: Removing the sticky on this post because it has been over two weeks since the original post (see the "Tips for Using This Forum" post at the top of the pets forum for more info). If we get an update here that this pet still needs a home, we'll make it sticky for another two weeks. --apollonia666

Doesn't she know that dumping cats is illegal? You may want to let her know. Have her call Animal Care and Control come and pick it up versus dumping it at least.

Thank you, I have been hearing that but I dont want to do anything to jeopardize the cats chances, I think the abandoner is pretty hostile.
Thanks -

oh she's gorgeous! your estranged friend is not awesome. I recently had a friend put down her cats because she felt that they were taking too much of her attention from her son and parrot. nope, not a joke. I know how you feel and actually, I didn't even have the opportunity you do to find this beauty a new home - she just executed them. it's hard to ever respect someone after that.
all of this said, good luck. I hope you can find a foster family or permanent home for this girl. -
Thanks for your support and kind words.
Gadget is actually about 9 years older than in this picture but her markings are the prettiest I have ever seen in a calico.
I had to use this image because when I asked estranged friend to send an updated image she sent me an image of Johnny Cash flipping the bird to the camera???
I also didnt think that anyone (vets included) would put down animals out of disinterest. Arent cats one of the easiest pets?
If you hear of anyone who might be interested or have any leads much appreciated. -
most cats that go to spca are put down, unless new kittens might have more of a chance

The ASPCA is no-kill. Perhaps you mean Animal Care & Control, which *does* euthanize. They are under contract with the city to take in any and all unwanted animals, and because of the terrible problem of irresponsible owners such as the OP's former friend, they must put down thousands of animals every year. -
I took some strays (mother and kittens) to the ASPCA once. We had to go in for a screening to see if they thought the animals were socialized enough to be adopted "as is" and do bloodwork. After that visit, which luckily went very well, we had to keep them two weeks while the bloodwork was cleared.
I saw lots of rescuers there with feral cats and most were turned away. Only a couple were accepted that round, and they all came from homes and were sweet and young (under 4 years about).
I called and made sure they were expecting me and even then they only have about a 2 hour window each week when you can get in to be evaluated. It was a long trek and long wait but I was glad to keep the momma and her 4 daughters from increasing the stray population near our home.
Howdy, Stranger!
