HUGELY IMPORTANT EVENT THAT YOU MUST ATTEND THIS WEEKEND — Brooklynian

HUGELY IMPORTANT EVENT THAT YOU MUST ATTEND THIS WEEKEND

Hi there, I just wanted to reach out to make sure you were aware of the plan that Mayor Bloomberg has proposed and is trying to implement regarding the relocation of the homeless intake center from Manhattan to the Atlantic Avenue Armory. This plan would be terrible for the all of Brooklyn but would be especially devastating to the developing communities of Clinton Hill, Bed Stuy and Crown Heights who are trying to overcome their bad reputations, attract new businesses and services, decrease crime and generally pull themselves up. The influx of hundreds of additional homeless (including more convicted sexual predators) to one of the most badly run homeless shelters in the city is nothing but bad news. I have collected a number of articles and information on this matter and implore you to please get MOTIVATED and JOIN THE FIGHT. Brooklyn can oppose this plan and win but only if we are united and motivated. Please send out the alert and keep at it.
There is a rally this Sunday

i think it's unfair to describe this particular situation as classic NIMBY-ism, for reasons already under discussion in this thread on the CH board:

  • Thanks Sweet Tea...NIMBY-ism is not at all why we're opposed to this plan. Anyone who attended the rally yesterday would know that. Every speaker and politician reiterated the point that Crown Heights wants to do their fair share of housing social service programs, but we don't want to be taken for granted while other communities are not sharing the burden.
  • I'm just calling it as I see it.

The rally may NOT have been NIMBY-ism but the wording of the original post definitely IS.
The influx of hundreds of additional homeless (including more convicted sexual predators) to one of the most badly run homeless shelters in the city is nothing but bad news.
There are NO presentations of options in the original post. Just the influx of people to fear.
