I saw similar crip grafitti earlier this year in the GAP station. It was gone in hours. Either they wrote with dry erase, or the MTA has some serious cleaning solutions and anti-mark tiles.
Last I checked the doorway of Hood Hing still says "crip up".
i spotted this one in GAP this spring: http://www.citynoise.org/article/1326
this one is from park place/vanderbilt: http://www.citynoise.org/upload/2833.jpg
you should take a photo of the stuff on hood hing and post it to citynoise 8) [/img] -

sure it could have... or, it could have just been a bandana. perhaps it was more that he was, as you say, a "young black man from east new york" that prompted the assumption that he was in a gang?
Mostly it was the way he was bragging about all the crimes he'd committed that made me wonder if it could have been a gang symbol and his involvement in the case being tried.
[quote/]*shrugs* maybe he was. or wasnt. i used to wear a red-wings hat alot. i never felt like it made me look like a blood.
I just wondered if I was totally off base in thinking it *may* have been a gang symbol. I've worn a red bandana on my head recently, too. And I'm not in a gang. -
In highschool, my friends and I thought it was SOOOO cool when we found out about the whole Blood sign- spelling out BLOOD with the fingers of both hands...

ive got $1 for anyone that actually sees a blood make that sign
or better yet, $2 to anyone who actually makes that sign to an alleged proho blood

I, of course, completely skipped what you said since it was a guest account. no offense taken -- I am hoping you realize that my comments were entirely tongue-in-cheek. -
Ok, here's where things get tricky -- the nexus of all things Daily Heights. hipster retro-kitsch faux-tagging, or gang message?

There is a train I've taken several times recently...I think maybe a B?...where someone has painstakingly blacked out bits of that sign (everywhere it occurs in at least one car) so that it now appears to say:
Do not lean on ducr
Any ideas what that is supposed to mean??? It's been driving me mildly crazy trying to figure it out. While I'm sitting there staring at it, bored, on my way to or home from work, at least. -
Gang Trivia wrote: NYBT of course it's more than likely that some carried guns and some didn't. However, Carnivore was arguing that they didn't carry guns. He even quoted a former member who said they didn't carry guns. And by the way Carn, prove to me that you were saying "exactly" what NYBT said because I can't find it..
Specifically, I said that I wasn't suggesting that brass knuckles were "standard armament", just what I saw (i.e. it's possible that some members might be armed differently). Then I pointed out that the article you were just praising contradicted you, that's all.Gang Trivia wrote: All I was saying was I knew of members who carried guns. I was really looking for stories from people who got chased, beaten up, or some other story about them to compare notes. However, someone whose name I won't mention (MEATEATER!) had to jump in and argue one stupid point, which was wrong. And then, refuses to shut his/her sock because he/she wants to get the last word in each time.
I wasn't "jumping in to argue a stupid point". If you go back to my original post, you'll see that it wasn't argumentative in any way. I was giving the first-hand account that you say you wanted, but apparently you aren't interested in facts if they don't fit with your romanticized version of street gangs. You were the one who attacked me after I shared my experience (about the Decepticons in particular, mind you, not gangs in general).
By the way, this repeated promises to leave, then returning to argue your point are classic internet troll behavior. Why don't you register if you're actually interested in a serious discussion? -
Carnivore: "By the way, this repeated promises to leave, then returning to argue your point are classic internet troll behavior. "
LOL Unfortunately some have known me as one who does not follow up on promises. :-( Peace Carnivore. I have to figure out what this DUCR is now. haha -
Okay I'll register later people. Thanks....

Oh speaking of gang hand signs, has anyone ever been to Staten Island? I stayed there with relatives for about a month this past summer and certain parts of it remind me of Brooklyn in the 1980's because unfortunately, gangs are ruling the streets in certain parts of it north of the Staten Island Expressway. It's ironic though because when you go south of the Expressway, the rest of the island is full of mainly Italian kids who are trying to act black, greeting each other with "Bloods" and "Crips" hand signs and what not. WHY I don't know. If any real bloods or crips saw them doing it, I'm pretty sure it would be deadly!! There are not many things more pathetic than a bunch of rich white italian kids driving around neighborhoods with $750k+ houses in daddy's '05 Escalade blasting Hot 97 trying to look hard and angry!! haha It's here sometimes in Ozone Park too but S.I. was hilarious. That has to be the corniest borough out there.

There were never roaming gangs on the level this clown is portraying. It rings about as true as "wilding" and when all is said and done, that was proven to be media hype.
Gangs and anyone else who does anything illegal keep to their own territory or interests. And they only cross-over to doing nasty stuff against others when their territory is compromised OR you're an extremely easy target. Case in point: The gang initiation of calling a chinese (and specifically chinese) take-out place and luring the delivery guy to an area where he/she can be killed.
It's as simple as that. Generally nobody is going to risk trouble unless it's worth it. And just randomly punching people is a great way to get locked up right away. Especially if you're in a known gang. If someone does that they're basically asking for the cops to arrest them.
Now clowns who are not gang members but who want to do something "daring" to get into a gang. Those are the ones you have to watch out for.
And to give some perspective on this, I lived in Madison, Wisconsin for 5 years and I had to call the cops more times because of drunken fratboy idiots in the 5 years I was there than the 30+ years I've lived in Brooklyn. The State Street riots around Halloween in that town are notorious and given the choice between being on State Street with a bunch of rowdy trust-fund frat-boys or walking through East New York at night, I'm taking a stroll down through East New York any day. -
Nah Jack. Firstly why did you call me a clown? To make your lies seem more credible? haha
Deceps were a known gang to the nypd gang unit and it always seemed that one of their favorite hobbies was to go into places they had absolutely no business being in and terrorize the residents, students, whoever. I can remember many times I and the other decent kids in the projects would hear about the decepticons going to manhattan to "wild" and we'd love it cuz we could have a baseball or football game for a few hours without them coming over to harrass us. Otherwise, we'd have to stay inside. You would be very surprised at how many gang members and other hoodlums are 1) "Just asking to be arrested"; or 2) DON'T CARE if they get arrested. I never witnessed any, but I've heard of people getting stabbed and beaten right in front of cops that were given a specific spot to sit and prevent it. Yes, they got busted right there on the scene 4 seconds later, but it didn't matter. See it's not all black & white - well not always. ;-) -

F*CK!! It was THE MEDIA that made my neighborhood so unsafe that I had to shake in my pants for the 5 minutes it took to run downstairs and walk my dog? And all those gunshots??? Don't tell me, Geraldo Rivera??? S.O.B.!! Damn Jack I wish I had known you then. You could have made me feel so much safer. -
Gang Trivia wrote: Nah Jack. Firstly why did you call me a clown?
Because you sound completely full of it and your accounts are not backed up by the personal knowledge I--and others who grew up here--have of NYC gangs and historical fact.
No doubt that gangs exist. But the lawlessness you're describing sounds like a toned down version of "The Warriors" without the sequined vests.
Most importantly, I'm calling you a clown because of this.Gang Trivia wrote: Okay I'll register later people. Thanks....
A free e-mail account on Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail and others takes seconds to setup. Your posting anonymously is quite suspect and wreaks of B.S.
In the time you have spent typing out paragraph upon paragraph pumping up you own gangland fantasy, you could have legitimized yourself more by beomcing a real registered member.
Instead, you're playing this all like a toy. Like a clown. Like fake with fantasies of gang life and the romanticization of violence that anyone who really experience what you claim simply would not have.
ADMINS: Unless this "Gang Trivia" anon--seemingly the king of trolls--gets registered, what's the point of this thread? I'd get a padlock on it. -
Subject: Trolls...
Why are trolls called trolls?
Because they fish (trolling- method of fishing) for someone to rile up? Or does it have to do with the mythical creatures that live under bridges? Or something else entirely?! -

A mix and match of the first two was always my impression.

Internet Trolls according to the Wikipedia:
Etymology
The contemporary use of the term first appeared on Usenet groups in the late 1980s. It is widely thought to be a contraction of the phrase "trolling for suckers," itself derived from the sport fishing technique of trolling. The latter can be compared with trawling, of which it is a near homophone.
The word likely gained currency because of its apt second meaning, drawn from the "trolls", which are portrayed in Scandinavian folklore, and children's tales, as often ugly, obnoxious creatures that are bent on wickedness and mischief. The image of the troll under the bridge in the "Three Billy Goats Gruff" emphasizes the trolls' dislike of outsiders within its physical environment, particularly those who intend to graze in its domain. -
Firstly, I am speaking from 100% experience and nothing else!! I stated several times that I was born and raised in a Flatbush city housing project! You are the one who is speaking B.S. that is not based on experience! OBVIOUSLY since you are arguing that the very things I saw with my own two eyes didn't exist!?!?! But what do I expect? Street smarts from someone who says,

And then thinks that THAT will prevent B.S.??? LOL Obviously, it doesn't because you are a registered member and you talk out of your ass. I even suspect that YOU are Carnivore. Maybe you have TWO email addresses because just like "Carnivore" did, you are arguing with me that my actual traumatizing experiences were "fantasy". Prove you're not Carnivore. Oh, that's right, you can't. Mainly because a free e-mail account on Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail and others takes seconds to setup. [quit it!]!
Secondly, what the hell are you so angry about??? It blows my friggin mind that you can get so angry arguing about something THAT YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT!?!?!? I wrote nothing from "fantasy". I witnessed everything and lived it. To this day, I have bad habits of getting spooked by people on the street. So at best, what neighborhood did you grow up in? Maybe you just grew up in a good neighborhood. And if you did, then you wouldn't have known about the Decepticons because contrarty to what kiss asses such as yourself say, the media is only interested in white on black crimes because it is THEN that they can tell black man to bend over so that they can lick the shit out of his ass and show how unracist they are.
Come on people, registered user or not, am I right or am I wrong. Thanks folks you've been great!! (I know I'm getting booted now!) Carry on.... -
Gang Trivia is just sharing his recollections, and I appreciate his perspective. Whether he registers or not, it doesn't change anything.
-
I want to distance myself from the ass-licking, though.
As far as possible. -

1. If you ever read anything on this board you would know that Jack is not me.
2. This is supposed to be peace? You're not gaining any credibility here. -

Much appreciated Q Train as I appreciated the links you provided as well. And to the others who provided some food for thought. I'm REALLY gonna get goin now and stop starting trouble for you guys. This time I promise, even if I come back tomorrow or the next day and see something to really piss me off, I'm gonna pretend a 12 year old wrote it (or Jack). I live in ozone park anyway!! lol Why did I even stop in?!?!? Take care all except Jack ********. you....
What did I tell you about calling names? Honestly. -
Does it really make a difference if you register or not? You can make up any old email address and any name.
A free e-mail account on Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail and others takes seconds to setup.
Most people lie on their profiles anyway. The only thing you can't do is send a PM. Say what you have to say to the person in the open forum. I say Gang Trivia needs to keep coming back. You know what you're talking about when it comes to gangs.
For the record I think that Jack and Carnivore are the same person too. -

You're only wallowing in your own ignorance.
