Armory Psycho Terrorizing Prospect Park West
For the last two weeks PPW from Bartel Prichard Sq, To Prospect Ave. has been under siege by an unruly resident of the 8th Ave Armory who has created havoc for store owners and residents alike.
She has been assaulting and terrorizing women on the avenue without provocation... one women told me she was pushed by this lunatic and wound up defending herself by smashing her in the face with her bag.
These are additional examples of her aberrant behavior:
Went into Prospect Deli and starting throwing things at the owner because he wouldn't let her have anything without paying.
While passing Enzo's, she noticed a
couple of seniors seated by the door waiting for the waiter to pick up their bill, she reached in grabbed the cash and ran around the corner to 16th st - when approached by a couple of clients who chased her from the restaurant, she started waving a bottle and spitting at them and screaming she had Aids
They backed off and she ran down the subway.
Went into Jimmy's candy store with her hand bleeding, started an argument and began waving her hands and splashing blood on him and his counter.
The Armory , the 72nd and 78th Pcts. are well aware of the situation, but it continues to go on- in fact, one Officer said he was called into a store by the owner who complained she had grabbed money off the counter, which she denied and started screaming at the officer and waving her hands in his face, he told her put the money back and there won't be a problem. This put her in overdrive and she went totally ballistic - He said he stepped back looked over his shoulder , faced her again and gave her a backhand .
This, for some reason this got her attention.... she put the money back and left the store.
If you see her on the street try to stay clear of her.

The black lady with her hair pulled back, in the black tee?
I'll make sure I avoid that nut job! -
I saw her yesterday on 7th Ave - yelling as she was walking up 9th Street. Couldn't make what she was saying, but it was her!
-
I walk by that area often, but I have not seen her. Thank you Hamilton for posting the picture. I appreciate the heads up.
-
And, she hasn't been arrested or put under psychiatric evaluation for what reason??
-
Thats the question I asked and was advised by an Officer they do arrest her but she is back on the street the next day,I then asked one of the Managers who came to bring her back to the Armory why isn't she transferred to another location , Her response, we can't do that which is bullshit.
I'm going to stop by Jim Brennens and see what he can do before we have another tragedy -
I've seen her screaming and cursing loudly walking along on 8th ave at night. She often walks in the street. I saw her one Sat. afternoon bent over laughing while stumbling along. It's disturbing and the police need to throw her in a psych ward and throw away the key before some innocent person gets hurt. The Armory should be held responsible.

I'm not familiar with the range of services offered at the armory, but it's likely that they focus chiefly on housing and case management. By law, people have a right to refuse psychiatric treatment and are typically committed involuntarily only when they present serious and imminent threat to self or others. Specifically, this means acts like stabbings, suicide attempts, or assaults far more serious than the ones described here (for the record, I'm not defending this woman - I find her behavior reprehensible).
Further complicating matters is the mental health care system, which has few psychiatric beds and is under constant pressure to cut costs; hence, even if this woman were hospitalized, she would be released once stabilized (anywhere from a few days to a month). Also, hospitals are designed for acute care and if a person neglects to follow through with outpatient treatment upon release, then it's likely that the past will repeat itself. If the person is a MICA (mentally ill chemical abuser), the problem is always intensified.
NYC has seen several high-profile cases like this, where someone suffers from severe mental illness (and often a co-occuring substance use disorder), yet has the wherewithal to understand his/her right to refuse treatment. -
Thanks for posting. As Brooklyn Paper noted recently, crime in WT is up 50%!! So hells yeah, we need to b.o.l. for creeps like this. They are dangerous.

It's appalling we have 100's of millions for sports stadiums and limited amounts to maintain health care problems that will protect our citizen base.
Last week Bloomberg ok'd the closing of a Manhattan homeless shelter and the residents are slated to be moved to Atlantis Ave.
How long will it be before we are the recipients of an overloaded shelter that will wind up in our neighborhood
I recommend Gracie Mansion Or Brooklyn Boro Hall as potential shelters, as the current residents have not done anything worthwhile for Brooklyn -

If this woman is technically/legally mentally ill and the cops know she's running around lose raising hell on the streets, who is responsible if she stabs someone to death in the throat?

The answer to your question is ,Jerk off Judges and Ass Hole Politicians who don't give a damm about your or my safety.

She is going to run into the wrong person. Then she'll stop the intimidation tactics.A little whup ass put on her will stop the craziness.

I don't disagree with your assessment that she is dangerous, but I think that we should remember that this woman and people like her are ILL. They exist in delusional worlds that are not of their own making. She may just have a family someplace that cares about her and who is wondering where she is. From what I have learned about this type of mental illness, often the drugs that treat the illness create side effects that are unbearable to the patients. Rather than try to work through the medication issues, many people use alcohol, pot or other drugs to self-medicate and find some relief from their demons.
Not that this makes it any easier to deal with the crazy woman threatening to toss blood on you, but I do think we need to keep the fact that the behavior of this woman and people like her is directly related to the fact that she is CRAZY, and not simply a criminal. -
homeowner, well said.

Here's the problem with trying to keep Park Slope and Windsor Terrace separate on these boards. This problem may have started in the south slope, but it ended in WT -- as it so often does.
(Yay! My street! Civic pride! WT in the house! WooT!)
Unfortunately, all the whup ass in the world doesn't solve crazy... -
Wow. I think I actually happened upon the Enzo's incident. I was walking down PPW, just past Enzo's and noticed two older women arguing with one (or I thought, two) more than slightly deranged younger women. They had taken the argument around the corner from Enzo's onto 16th St. The older women were speaking calmly (I was too far away to hear the exact words) but the other two women were out of control, wandering back and forth across the street, retreating towards the subway then running back to scream at the older women. It looked like it might escalate into something more serious... I was surprised that the older women were right in the thick of it, following the other women around the corner and repeatedly confronting them.
I had my two babies with me, so I exited the scene. -

The difference between crazy and criminal won't matter much to anyone being assaulted by her. -
pastoralia wrote: The difference between crazy and criminal won't matter much to anyone being assaulted by her.
true. however, it does matter legally. if she's too crazy to form the intent to commit a crime, she can't be punished for that crime. the saddest part is that if she did commit a major enough crime, she might actually spend a significant amount of time in a mental hospital. depending on the facility (and I'd say there are only a handful of facilities in this country that are doing anything more than warehousing) she could actually receive significant enough treatment for all of her issues to stop being such a freakshow. again, the chances of that level of treatment are slim. the problems this woman presents are systemic and portray the failure of our government to successfully help people who can't help themselves. -

Agreed. If you find yourself in a bad situation with her (or anybody), worry about her motives, mental state, upbringing, the government, etc. after you've successfully defended yourself and your property. Plenty of time then. -

i LOVE her. she puts some serious effort into her attire--and her speedwalking workouts in the street look fairly hardcore. My fave is when she wore her pantyhose over her clothes. -
She probably neglected to read the instructions.
-
I am starting to hate that my daughter works in that WT neighborhood!
-
I didn't realize that she was ILL!!! In that case, she can scream, threaten, yell and terrorize the neighborhood all she likes.....
 -
The neighborhood is not the problem, it's the indifference exhibited by the Armory, who should have their security patrolling the Circle and PPW.
It's not unusual to observe the ladies of the Armory having afternoon cocktails in the Circle before going wild.
Howdy, Stranger!
