Hooking up new LCD TV

All right, I feel really dumb now because after extensive research I bought a 32" Samsung LCD and...I'm so technically inept that I can't figure out how to hook it up! It's fairly basic: DVD, VCR, running audio through receiver. (And no cable: we must be the last hold-outs.)

Can anybody recommend someone in or near the Slope who could do that (for a fee or barter of some kind of course)?

    know any teenage boys? I bet they could hook it up cheaply without even needing instructions

    I wish I knew some teenage boys--they could hook up my TV and help me improve my Grand Theft Auto skillz.

    I was thinking about Geek Squad but was just wondering if there was some local wiz people knew about.

    Do you live in a building? Maybe there are some teenage boys living there who could use a few bucks and less scary than hiring a random stranger off of CL or something and cheaper than Geek Squad.

    Another option is to call the manufacturer's hotline and see if they can walk you through it

    btw, I should just say "teenagers" as I'm sure there are some teenage girls who could get this sorted out just as quickly

    It's not too hard. Sounds like you're just hooking up two things: a DVD player and a VCR. First thing is to see how many HDMI inputs you have on the back of your television (most new TVs have three or four). Then, make sure the two players also have HDMI inputs. If so, go to an Apple store and buy two HDMI cords. Buy from Apple because they have them for $20 each, which is the cheapest available unless you buy them on-line. HDMI will transfer video and audio, keeping you from having multiple cords for each device. Plus, it transfers the nest picture. Having said all that, if the devices don't have the HDMI inputs you can ignore all I just said above.

    buy the HDMI cables online. I got mine at newegg for like 3bux each about a year ago.

    Don't worry about HDMI.
    Your VCR won't have it and unless you have a fairly new DVD player it may not have it either. Depending on your receiver, you may need an optical cable for sound.

    Agree with soundfreak, don't buy HDMI cables for until you are sure your receiver has HDMI input/output as well as your DVD players. If they are not pretty new, they definitely won't. You probably at least want to run component video cables form the DVD to the TV to take some advantage of your tv's capabilities.

    Probalby you just need to run the audio cables for the DVD player and the VCR to the Receiver and then run audio cables OUT from teh TV into the Receiver. Video cable for the DVD and VCR should go to the TV.
