Favorite PS Restaurant

Call me boring, but I kinda like Windsor Cafe (which is technically probably more WT than PS, but what does a block or two matter?).
Sure, there's yummier, more specialized food in tons of other places, but it's close, it's easy, totally unpretentious, and the waiters know us well enough to approach our table with a glass of red wine for my lusherific gf every time we go without us having to say a word.
That, and we're new-ish to the 'hood (but native to the city), so we've only explored a handful of the more well-known places, mostly along 7th and 5th aves. -
+1 for al di la when I want to spend some ca$h, if not, then its Press 195.
-
Oh, I love Press 195 as well. I just wish the goodies would come out sooner, but it's still worth the wait.
Windsor Cafe, eh? I live near there and it's reliable - a step up from many diners, but I tried all of the red wines there once and couldn't find one that was drinkable. -
Franny's really tops the list for me.
-
Can a restaurant you only went to once really be a "favorite"? The "best" perhaps but favorite would indicate you frequent the joint.
-
Franny's isn't in Park Slope.

Yes.
My thread, my rules :-) -
On Mondays in winter: Steinhof
Other days/seasons: 12th St, moutarde - though less lately,
Outside of Park Slope: Henry's End -

True, it's in PH. However; it's just across the street from PS, so I understand people lumping it together. Heck, Franny's is a NYT 2-star restaurant - of course PS wants to claim it.
-
Applewood. Hands down.
-
Went to Canaille for the first time last week...really good food and great service. Very personable French owner and chef. And their prix fixe before seven is a steal (three courses for $26 and half off a bottle of wine).
No, I'm not a plant. I was just really impressed with the place and want to see them do well. -

uhhhh.. wow.. Mamacita, would you believe I created that little graphic a few years ago? September 4, 2002 to be exact, says the file's timestamp. Wow, I'm quite the dork.
The original series of 'pwned' images I made are here (oh well, there goes my hopes of remaining mostly-anonymous in these forums), on my ollldddd portfolio site that hasn't been updated since leaving SVA in 2005, the work of which you should completely ignore since it's so old: http://www.obleek.com/stuff/ww2ol/pwnedpwned/
I had to rename the directory to "pwnedpwned" (from just "pwned") after my site stats showed a big spike in bandwidth from people linking directly to it.
Weird to see it so randomly used...but I guess it's nice to see it's propagated throughout the net..

Oh crap, somehow I forgot about Steinhof. Definitely one of my faves. Can't beat enjoying some really yummy, non-bar-food food, right at the bar.
Other days/seasons: 12th St, moutarde - though less lately,

Yes, I'm so pwned for trying to clarify something.

Wow possible_maybe, what are the odds!
I apologize to everyone for putting that picture in a food thread :puker: -
I hate to be a grammar Nazi, but isn't the proper spelling PWN3D?
-
Back to food....
If we're talking strictly food, my picks would be Al Di La, Rose Water, and Applewood, in no particular order. I'll put those three places up against any place, almost anywhere.
If I were to pick, though, what restaurant represents "neighborhood" to me, and where I can go in and feel like family at any time, while enjoying good food and drinks, then my pick is Bogota. George and Farid have earned every bit of the popularity they have by working their asses off. I'm proud to call them friends and support their restaurant.
My favorite restaurant ever, neighborhood or non-neighborhood, is Blue Hill at Stone Barns. It's a pilgrimage everyone must take at least once, if not 100, times. -

Yeah, it kinda blew my mind. I looked at it a second and thought "hey, I made a 'pwned' image from that picture, too! but I'd *never* use a font like that...", before I realized I did indeed use a font like that, and it was mine.
I apologize to everyone for putting that picture in a food thread :puker:
Craziness... I can't even fathom the odds.. -
I agree - Applewood hands down.
-
I haven't tried Applewood yet but keep meaning to.
I should have mentioned that Tempo has a good prix fixe deal.
Steinhof does have some good cheese spaetzle.
Getting hungry now :-) -
Although I stand by Applewood (I think it beats any of the "greenmarket-centric" restaurants in the city, including Blue Hill), Steinhof is straight-up fun and delicious. The Spaetzle, especially.
-
Steinhoff is awesome. I go there for happyhour about 3 times a week- $3 wine and a great bar to read at and relax!
-
Song. Great Thai food and real cheap.
-
I like convivium and moim. bar food - I love sheep station and total.
in PH I love franny's and beast. need to go to garden cafe more often.
in manhattan, menchanko-tei, babbo and sakagura probably top my list of faves. -
Blue Ribbon when the kids are sleeping and Bonnies Grill for mouth watering burgers..
-
Stone Park Café. But on a given night, if I've ordered the right dish, it could be Convivium or Palo Santo. I love what Rose Water does & how they do it, but the actual food is hit-or-miss (OK, more often hit). Applewood I only visit for brunch. Bogota is great comfort food & comfort cocktails. I've enjoyed Canaille - more investigation needed there. Taro Sushi is great but lacks atmosphere. I'm kind of surprised so many mention Steinhof - for drinks, maybe.. is their schnitzel or goulash or spaetzle even average? Love Sidecar too. Tempo - at times quite nice but should be better; too many kitchen problems. Al di la's pretty solid, though perhaps over-adored. Can't stand Blue Ribbon; don't get that phenomenon at all. Need to make it to 12th St. B&G someday.
MOD NOTE: Whenever you see praise of Stone Park on this board, keep in mind that you are not seeing the full story, since the restaurant has previously had negative comments about their establishment removed through threats of legal action.

Here's my "I've lived here for 13 years and this list is constantly evolving" list...no trashing of any place, just love for these - in no particular order except how they came into my head...
Al di La
Applewood
Rose Water
Stone Park (especially and mainly for brunch)
Moim
A.O.C.
Not in P.S. Franny's
Convivium
Because of the excellence of these restaurants it's hard to move on to another place, although I'm pulling for Barrio.
MOD NOTE: See comment about Stone Park above. -
We also like Applewood, Stone Park, Moim, (admittedly Not in P.S.) Franny's and Convivium. In addition, we love 12th Street Bar and Grill, Miriam, and Yamato. For comfort food, it's Two Boots, NoNo and Tutta Pasta.
MOD NOTE: See comment about Stone Park above. -
Canaille is one of my favorites - Philippe is so nice and they have the best moules frites I've (or my French mother-in-law) ever had, which is saying a lot.
Stone Park is great for brunch, but I'm not wild about their dinners. I love Tempo, Alchemy, Nana, Taro, Tapeo and Convivium.
That being said, I've had consistently good food since we moved to PS a little over a year ago, and have been quite happy with everything!
