Plant Thieves in Fort Greene — Brooklynian

Plant Thieves in Fort Greene

Newly planted shrubs were dug out of the front plot of 153 Lafayette in the dark of night on two separate occasions over the past week.

Keep your eyes out for loners with shovels after 10pm!

  • that's so weird. who would bother? seems like more effort than its worth.
  • someone doesn't like you VS someone is making a profit off of your shrubbery
  • Duh you supposed to chain the shrubs with a bike chain and yeah someone probably doesn't like you.
  • We had it happen last year; someone IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY came up and yanked a tree out from a planter in front of our house! We were shocked but many people I told about it said that it had happened to them over the years as well.

Then this week some a**hole came along and stole our drainpipe. Times are tough all over....

  • Subject: plant theives

Plant theivery has been going on for decades in FG/CH. One well known plant theif was finally caught in the act by a nun as he was stealing a large rhodedendrum from the Bishop of Brooklyn's yard. Finally the cops were able to arrest him!

You are suppossed to garden defensively. Chain those shrubs, plant thorns and nothing too showy, pink, white or with florist shop equivalents.

  • I know I'm getting old and soft and I almost can't believe it's me saying this, but it's hard for me to digest the fact that we live in an area where people regularly and willingly pay over a million dollars for their homes yet still have to 'garden defensively'.

  • I hear you on that, but unfortunately, it happens on the UPE as well - friends on coop boards were telling me how they had to chain everything down (they hide the chains under the soild etc...).

  • Saint James Infirmary, you say,"it's hard for me to digest the fact that we live in an area where people regularly and willingly pay over a million dollars for their homes yet still have to 'garden defensively'."
But remember that down the street or next street over not everyone can afford the million and maybe resent the million. Anyway you look at it...it's still Brooklyn, NYC. US of A.

Cheers & God bless us all.
