portable air conditioner recommendations

Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations on portable air conditioners. I've noticed on the last one I had that it wasn't cooling the room enough and that it was a Delonghi. Any recommendations. Thank you.

don't do it! they don't work nearly as well as a window one and they take up a lot of space!

Problem is, we have an iron bar and a window one doesn't fit. How much does a iron bar for the window cost?

I have a Sharp that works quite well, doesn't take up a lot of space, stores easily during the winter, is quiet.

The best thing: no more condensation drips from other floors smacking on the outdoor metal casing (we live on the first floor of a ten story building).

since we're talking air conditioners: does anyone know how i can limit the dripping condensation from my own unit? is it as simple as titling a bit inside the window -- i.e., more parallel to the ground?

maybe you can get the one you have modified. call Far East Iron works, Steve: 646 773 5118 Is it on a fire escape? in that case your only legal option is a portable.

You can mount a window unit so it is inside too. You'll need to build a box to hold it

More parallel to the ground yes but still away from the window. You can also ad a tube to it or a trough, like a piece of rain gutter so more accumulates.

If it is just dripping on the unit below it just put a piece of stick on carpet on the one below (make sure to cut out if you hvae vents on top)

I also have bars in front of my windows. I cant barely fit my window fan into it because they are so close to the window frame. What kinda prices are we talkin here for one of the portable units? Or are there any killer fans I could look into to put in my room? The past two nights have been brutal.

the model number for the Sharp portable unit mentioned above is: CV-P12LX.

It cost $650 last August.

All air conditioners (portable, window, central) have their advantages and disadvantages. In the balance, I'm very happy with the portable (as is my wife, who was a portable skeptic). Most importantly, we're able to sleep well on hot NY nights. What more do you want?
