Changes at La Taqueria — Brooklynian

Changes at La Taqueria

I hear that LaTaqueria is making some changes in the next week or so. There is going to be a new tequila bar (with 100 different kinds of tequila) taking up a large part of the dining area, less menu choices, and more upscale Mexican food along the lines of their specials. I'm curious how this will go as I eat there often (I hope well because I really like the owner). Should be interesting. The takeout side will remain the same.

  • interesting. I hope they do well. I always eat on the takeout side
  • For once I will speak out for the babies. What business does all that tequila have moving into a baby-friendly restaurant? I usually get take-out from that place. I eat my tacos at home while the babies eat their tacos in highchairs inside the restaurant. And that's fine. I don't like mixing babies and booze.
  • I think tequila makes babies, so it's just the circle of life

    Good point.
  • Such quick wit on this board!

LOL! Good one, Flexi! :drunken:
  • the restaurant side is surprisingly good. they do a great brunch that attracts less folk than it should. anything they do, i'm there.
  • i agree. i've always thought the place was underrated.

    i find the food delicious.
  • i don't know why i don't go there more. now that there's more booze, i'll have to make a point of doing so.

Me too. I hope they don't take anything off of their menu.
  • Is this the one on Fifth Avenue or the one on 7th Avenue?
  • It's on 7th at Berkeley. The one on 5th is Rachel's. Both a favorite. I hope the changes are a hit. I feel at home every time I eat at either.

I am not sure if you are joking by this or not - but I will take the bait...

Doesn't a restaurant have every right to do what it needs to do to keep up with competitors, and make more money? I doubt a baby order of tacos really keeps the rent paid. Plus, aren't the babies eating relatively early? I doubt people are going to be pounding tequila shots at 6pm most days...
  • i think he was kidding
  • Subject: Got a look at the new tequila bar...

Got a look at the new tequila bar and the remodeling looks great. There is one high table near the door and the eating area in the back on the upper level remains, but for the most part the bar takes up all of the bottom floor. The menu has been all redone (with some items remaining/slightly modified). However, this is not a place for strollers and tykes anymore. If you try any of the new dishes, let us know. Unfortunately, I won't be able to eat here as often as in the past as the entre prices are noticably higher. I hope the vibe is good and I wish them all the best!
  • I'll have to check it out. That's to bad about the prices being much higher
  • I thought there burritos were already a little pricey. It's too bad, I probably wont go back.

They took the tamales off. The beef, and vegetable were my favorite items, especially when they were drowned in the orange sauce and sour cream.
  • I'd like to view the new menu right now, but LA Taqueria's website is down and it looks like the old menu is still on menupages.com.

  • saw the menu, and the bar. it certainly makes the left side an intriguing nighttime option.

    now keep the brunch!!!
  • i agree...

the renovation looks quite upscale. love the look of the new bar area.

this part of park slope could use a nice place to go get a drink.

from my understanding, you can still get take out or delivery from the old section with the relatively same menu, but the left side is now a smaller area for dining and a much larger and nicer looking bar.

definitely a tempting place to go have a drink now...
  • I'll have to try it out. I really like the take out spot, the lupe's taco is fantastic. Has anyone gone in yet?
  • do they still serve salsa and chips with meals? that makes any meal much better to me and their's was my very favorite salsa. I hope it's not gone!

  • went last night. Half of the redone space was closed off (bar-included), no waiters, just pick a table in the back and go get the take-out burritos.

We were in the mood for more than cafeteria style dining and headed to B.Bar where they had a salsa bar-yum!
