Subject: Bad reputation
Crap like this (no pun intended) really annoys me. I think it's a few bad dog owners who don't pick up after their dogs that give the majority of the respectful dog owners a bad reputation. Come on...as a dog owner, if you don't pick up after your dog, especially on the side walks, you're bound to come across it during your next walk and potentially step on it yourself. I have a very large dog who craps like an elephant and i make sure i carry enough bags with me to always pick up after him. I have one of those poop bag dispensers which is attached to his leash. This way, i ways have enough bags with me...i think it's the dog owners responsibility to always carry enough bags.
I've seen a few people not pick up after their dog in my street and noticed that they don't live on our block...so perhaps they don't give a damn. I made it a point to stop them and offer them a bag to pick up the crap. Haven't run into any confrontations yet. They're usually embarrassed about getting caught.
Anyway people...pick up after your dogs and stop giving us responsible dog owners a bad rep!!! -

If you got the balls to do Step 4, then you should not be a chickenshit and RUN.
Step 2: Insert stick into said "Poo".
Step 3: Lift stick with "Poo" at the end.
Step 4: Throw "Poo" at the head of pet owner.
Step 5: RUN
Hmm. I generally flee after flinging poo at people. But that is mostly just so that I don't get it flung back at me, which is the usual response.

Oh, is it really that simple? Well here is the problem I have: Why the hell do I have to give you or any other self-appointed guardian of the sidewalk any explanation at all?
If you have the best intentions yet lack a bag, a simple explanation that you're going to go get one will probably do.
It's really quite simple.
You're not my mother, nor are you a cop. You have no authority over me or any other dog owner, and that's why I have no problem being nasty in return.
I don't know if you don't pick up your dog's poo, but someone who does not, SHOULD be able to give an explanation. I don't think the previous poster was saying people should be nasty in requesting a clean-up, but I believe there are some rules about picking up poo left behind by your pet. They even come with fines. And since many of us use the sidewalk, why shouldn't we be able to ask that other sidewalk users respect the public space? It doesn't mean it has to be a nasty exchange, but I have the right to walk on a sidewalk free of crap, just like anyone else should have the right to walk a dog on the sidewalk. -
I'll second some of the other posters who say they offer a bag to the offender. My typical tact: "Oh, did you forget a bag? Here's one. I carry extras." Followed by stuffly shoving the bag into the person's hand whether they want to take it or not. Usually then followed by standing there until they pick it up.
As a dog owner, I always, ALWAYS, pick up after my pooch. Have I hurredly left the house sans bag and realized it only after a steaming pile had been dropped? Of course. What did I do in such situation? Found a random piece of street-strewn garbage (you know there's loads around) and picked it up. It's not a difficult concept.
I've found that the people who leave their dogs' poo all over the place aren't the ones who typically pick it up and every once in awhile for whatever reason leave it. The people who don't pick it up are the irresponsible pet owners _who have absolutely no intention_ of picking it up in the first place. -
