Homeless person @ 7th ave F stop — Brooklynian

Homeless person @ 7th ave F stop

Anyone know what's the deal with the homeless person (I honestly can't tell if they're a man or a woman) who sits on a suitcase at the 9th street end of the 7th Ave F train stop underground?

Said person does not seem to bother people (aside from people maybe being bothered that said person is homeless and in the subway stop all day and not contributing to society, ie not working). But they don't seem to ask for money or even talk to anyone or seem strung out. They just kinda sit there.

Anyway, the other day I offered said person an extra sandwich I had from Subway, to which they explained (very politely) that they had plenty of food already.

Also the other day, I saw the person doing what looked like photo-scrap-booking. I never see them anywhere but the subway and in the same spot all the time, so I can only wonder when they took the pictures, and where...

  • I completely think it's two different people. I have seen both a man and a woman sitting there. And I have seen the woman doing scrapbooking or something too, although she could have just been looking at pics. Once I saw a girl who seemed to be familiar with the homeless woman give her a Vitamin Water. I sure hope she recycled the bottle after she peed in it. That's really the only threatening thing about her, or them-- the pee stench barely covered up by the lysol stench.

Hey Dave I think you live right by me--- did you see that kid asleep on the sidewalk on 7th bet 14th and 15th this morning? (west side of street)

It finally happened. I read a post on here while drinking a beer, and it came out my nose. Thanks Scarlett.

I missed that kid. I generally walk up 15th in the morning to the stop at the circle, then home along 7th from the 9th street stop. All for some variety.
But yeah, sounds like we live right by each other! Yay neighbor!

I'm pretty sure that it's a women. I thought that it was a man for a long time until I heard her talking. Maybe it's two different people, but I've never seen them together!

I notice that there are a few people who drop things off for her.

Said person does appear to be mentally ill but harmless.

  • Just curious - how you can one appear to be mentally ill when her head is usually down? I mean I know not everyone likes scrapbooking........

  • I've seen her, and she's definitely a woman: My husband came home during
rush hour, about 6:45 pm, and she was crouched by her luggage. He thought she was getting something out of her bag, but she was peeing into the slight gutter against the wall, making a mini pee stream....
At least I know why that tunnel always smells like piss or bleach!

Scrapbooking is weird. It might be a sign of mental illness! My eldest daughter kind of freaked me out some years ago when she was a Pediatric Resident and took up this hobby. She said it was a stress reliever and is still going it more than a decade later.

Isn't reusing enough? I think the folks who have to sort bottles of pee at the recycling plant may think it's enough to just reuse in such cases.

  • I have no problem with this woman except that the area she sits in always smells weird when she's there. I wasn't sure if she was urinating in her pants or what, but it also smells like she tries to make it more fragrant. The combination is urine, cigarette smoke, Lysol (as scarlett had mentioned) and maybe bleach. How can a homeless person afford to be a smoker?? I never see her bumming cigarettes off of people...

I guess it's the part where she was talking to herself? It's possible that it was a loud cell phone conversation, I guess!

I have never seen her talking to herself nor anyone else! I don't get the crazy vibe. Has anyone on here ever talked to her besides to offer her something?

Yep. Seen her talking to herself and conducting herself in a standard crazy person mode. However, I've decided that she is not really dangerous, just not quite all there.

My wife said the lady sells her pictures, which she pastes onto card stock. Don't know the validity, but that's the word on the street.

I used to not really care either way... but seeing her smoke and piss in the station is irritating to say the least.

  • Yeah the piss/cleaning fluid smell has gotten so bad, the minute i see her around the bed I automatically hold my nose.

I've seen this woman almost every other day for the last 5 years I've been living in the slope, and I've only heard her utter a sound once to someone that said hi to her. All I know is that I'd be crazy as well if i sat in the same spot for 5 years with my head down all day.

  • Yeah, I think it's pretty safe to assume anyone who lives down in the subways, sitting on luggage all day and peeing in the gutters is crazy. Maybe not harmful-crazy, but certainly nuts.
