That's ridiculous because Williamsburg is the center of the universe!

There is no way around it -- thrift-store t-shifts are a staple of hipster fashion. You wear one, and you are dressed in the hipster mode. -

Yes, but being dressed in the hipster mode does not in and of itself make you a hipster. -

Agreed. But you might reasonably be mistaken for one, and run the risk of being caught up in the hipster backlash. -

There is a difference between thrift store T out with aviators on a Friday night and thrift store T with sweatpants in your apt. or for that matter even at Mooney's. -

Yes, but the hipster backlash is what is becoming ridiculous...and the original topic of this thread. -

if you don't like 20-somethings in old t-shirts, get a life.
personally, i think the ph could do with a bit of hipness. -

So, let me get this straight. If I bought a faded Daisy Mae's Steak House t-shirt from a thrift store, and wear it to the grocery store on Saturday morning with sweat pants, I'm a hipster who deserves to be derided, and about whom people will make numerous negative assumptions. Whereas if, while eating at Daisy Mae's Steak House in Tucson, AZ, years ago, I bought one of their t-shirts, and have worn it long enough that it is faded and has a hole, I am a perfectly OK human being that doesn't need to worry about being camphone-photographed and mocked on DH?
Maybe it doesn't make so much sense to judge people by appearances, eh? -
EastOfFlatbush wrote: Maybe it doesn't make so much sense to judge people by appearances, eh?
i agree.
its like... this thread started off on a humorous note, but suddenly got pretty snarky/holier-than-thou.
its easy to hate someone whos a snob, an over-entitled trustfunder, a cokehead, a fashion-whore, etc... and its waaaay too easy to let the style/fashion preferences of those types of folks become a symbol of them.
but a shirt is just a shirt, you know? when someone starts railing on someone cause of the shirt shes wearing, that makes them no better than the "annoying hipster" theyre making fun of. cause ive heard plenty of fashion snark from hipsters, heh.
hipsters are easy to hate on- ive done it. but ive also been hated on or called a "hipster" cause of one or two odd things i do, like ride a vespa or wear vintage sneakers.... and any of you that know me irl know that im like a total non-hipster. double standards suck.
i was good with this argument while we were debating the suckiness of the hipster-attitude. but when it got down to picking bones about clothes choices, it just started getting a tad silly.
fuck the hipsters. fuck the haters. just do your thing, yall 8) -

Of course not EastofFlatbush - it all depends on how you wear your hair

Hold up. You've got nothing to worry about. A hipster wouldn't be caught dead in sweatpants.

I don't know anything about ridicule or cameraphones.
But I should have said "vintage" or "vintage looking" instead of "thrift-store". -

Subject: HIPSTER SIGHTING at the Jewish Hospital
Alright. This morning I witnessed a man walking down classon ave. He was wearing converse allstars (fine), tight-ish blue jeans with both knee areas ripped out (I'm talking about 10 inch holes here - questionable), and an olive green vintage army field jacket, complete with 4 year hash marks, yellow rank insignia befitting a staff sergeant, and no shirt underneath (alert!). And while walking his oblivious self down the street, he almost hit me because he was fully engaged, head down, in some hard cover book.
I actually stopped when he passed me and just watched him as he walked away. -

I can assure you - there are very few hipsters on this blog. Sorry to inform - but true hipsters would not spend near the amount of time you guys spend on this message board - they'd rather be high and free somewhere.

um, do you mean HIPPIES? -
Um, - NO - I mean hipsters- based on this board's varied definitions and discriptions...
There are some folks on here who are technicians - not nessarily Nerds - as some may wish they were really were or categorized (Note: Nerds are HIP these days!).
Most folks on here just have an opinion - most times herd or group like - but simply that - opinionated folks. I dare say, most of you are ORDINARY! Based on your posts -you do not belong in a unique category - beyond that of neighbors and citizens.
So, to those of you who initiated and congratulated this thread - I agree - you should not be categorized into anything but ORDINARY!
The category of 'Hipters' Or 'Hippes', if you prefer, should be reserved for true constituents! -
