Fish in BH?

Does anyone know of a good, clean fish market in our 'hood?

Well, locally there is one called 'Fish Tales' on Court Street near Bergen/Congress. They are quite good. On Livingston Street near Nevins in that odd strip of stores there is a green grocer/fish store that... Well... It doesn't seem like the cleanest place on earth, but I'm no expert on fish and it's nearby so it's worth swinging by to at least check out.

There used to be a place on 5th Avenue near Bergen or the general vicinity, but they seem to have disappeared. There are actually a few places on 7th Avenue in Park Slope (near 3rd?) that seem decent as well.

Beyond that, I would actually recommend taking the B express train to Brighton Beach. It's less than a 1/2 hour ride and the quality of the food there is great at a great price.

The other choice is taking the N or D train one stop into Manhattan and finding a place in Chinatown that might fit your needs.
  • Chinatown is a great idea for fish. You can also go the other direction to Sunset Park, the Brooklyn Chinatown. The N train to 8th Ave at 60th St. Fresh, high turnover and super cheap.

There's good fish all the way down Atlantic Ave at Le Crevette. It's a combined restaurant and fish monger. I've also heard Fish Tales is good.

There's really nothing more close by tho, in Park Slope or Boerum Hill.
