Just My Opinion -
I know this has been beaten to death, but I have to agree with everyone that said Sotto Voce is overrated. I haven't had a good meal there in years, and the seafood never tastes fresh.
I also say good riddance to 2nd Street Cafe. The food was mediocre. -

The thing with Blue Ribbon is that, while the menu is pretty unremarkable at first glance, the food is first-rate. Their tomato soup is to die for. I also like that you can have a pretty average-priced meal at one table, a table next to it breaking the bank, and everyone's having a good time.
The bread pudding is good, but I have to say the best bread pudding you'll ever have is at a little hole in the wall called Bread & Chocolate in the same town you'll find the best pizza......New Haven, CT. -

Long Tan: it's now been in the 'hood long enough to not be a sexy option, but i've always found it to serve some solid Thai. it suffers only because it's not as cheap as Song.

I have to disagree with that. Commander's Palace and Emeril's in New Orleans each serves (or served...pre-Katrina) a completely different bread pudding. Each brings tears to your eyes at the thought that it won't last forever and you'll have to go home. They're both wonderful.

I would love to agree with you, but can't because I have not ordered a lot of stuff off their menu. Yes, at first glance, Blue Ribbon's menu knocked my socks off. The salad that my meal came with was delicious, but a seafood appetizer was average. I like Blue Ribbon, but never crave anything on their menu. If friends want to go to BR, I am happy to go.

Raw you hit upon my feeling exactly... If someone else wants to go to Blue Ribbon I won't say no and after the meal I am always pleased but I seem to never be the one who says..."Let's go to Blue Ribbon." Gee as I think on that it is really odd!!
Now there are all sorts of places that if someone sugests it my response is.. no way..won't eat there. -

Funny, I try to convince Mrs. C to go to Blue Ribbon all the time, but she's never up for it so I never get to go (which just makes me want to go more).

I have the same difficulty persuading my wife to go to Blue Ribbon.
Carnivore and/or Veets, pm me anytime you want to go, and I'll be happy to meet you there. -

I'm happy to say that Commander's Palace still serves that amazing bread pudding post-Katrina. Worth a trip for that! -

Okay, I have been giving this a lot of thought and here is my list of overrated Park Slope restaurants.
1. Red Hot (when it was open): Their delivery was way too slow, the food was overpriced and the food just wasn’t any good.
2. Song: Way too expensive, the bathrooms are always dirty and there is never anyone else there which makes it feel like you are eating at a dying restaurant.
3. Aunt Suzies: Way too pretentious and small portions. Aunt Suzies is trying so hard to be a five star restaurant that they have forgotten what counts – solid Italian food. The rumor is that there main chef is French and has never even been to Italy. What Park Slope really needs is a nice, family style Italian restaurant.
4. Applewood: They simply give you too much food and they definitely undercharge their patrons. I can’t go there anymore because I always left stuffed to the gills but never felt like I spent any money. And, the doggy bags we always had to drag home were so heavy that I now have to see a chiropractor.
5. Pizza Plus: This establishment has fallen into the Aunt Suzies trap. Pretentious, overpriced and way small portions. Park Slopers need family style!
6. Johnny Macks: The burgers are steamed, the fries are baked, the chicken wings are made from soy and the TVs are always tuned to PBS or figure skating. Why this place is so popular is just beyond me. -

yeah-stupid me stopped reading at that one. Duh-thanks

Stutter:
You mst be thinking about a restaurant other than Song. I could not imagine someone describe a place where most entrees are under $12 as "expensive." Unless the bottom fell out of the place in the past month, it's pretty packed most days.
I'd also never call Aunt Suzie's a place trying to be a five-star restaurant, unless that five-star restaurant is Carmine's.
Howdy, Stranger!
