Broken shit — Brooklynian

Broken shit

edited November -1 in Site Issues
I lost track of the broken shit thread.

Anyway, so the "Posts since last visit" link on the front page ( http://www.brooklynian.com/ ) goes to http://www.brooklynian.com/search.php?search_id=newposts which redirects to the forums page ( http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/index.php ) instead of the correct address http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/search.php?search_id=newposts , as the "Posts since last visit" link on the forums page ( http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/index.php ).

FYI.

  • oops. fixed. thanks!

    what else?
  • I keep getting this message when I want to go to the forums

Please ensure both the install/ and contrib/ directories are deleted

I finally got in by going to the new main page, clicking on one of the stories then going back to the Index. Is it something I am doing wrong?

I got it too for about 10minutes, and then it stopped
  • for the past few days, it seems like the "unread post" marker never goes away, even after i've read (or even commented) on a thread.

I've gotten this glitch before. Try logging out and logging back in again.
  • this isn't a broken thing, per se, but a request/suggestion. it seems like a small one, and i hope it is, since it's not terribly important:

i often use the next topic/previous topic buttons. is it possible to add a link back to the forum to the page that comes up if you hit "next" too many times (the one that says "there are no newer topics in this forum" or something)?

not at all a big deal, obviously.
  • and another thing....

lately, the width of the actual thread pages is too big for my screen (14" laptop). have to scroll back and forth to read, which is kind of a drag.

I just tested this feature and it is still there. It never went away.
  • The right hand ad column is two columns wide rather than one. The message board pages show up fine, but individual threads are bad and the columns are obsuring the quote buttons on the right of each individual post.

    maybe i wasn't being clear. here's what i see:
    image

i meant that it would be nice to have a link back to whichever of the boards you were browsing when you got this -- back to Ask Brooklynian, in this case -- not just the main page.

like i said, it's really, really not a big deal. i'm not even sure why i brought it up in the first place. must have been having a kvetchy day.
  • ugh. Columns squished too far to the left with a lot of wasted space to the right as of today
  • ^funny, i was just thinking that this was the first time in days i hadn't had to scroll to the right.
  • Another first post in a thread got swallowed.

There was a BrooklynPotter thread that did this as well, I believe. The post was fine maybe an hour ago.

I don't know if this is "broken" or a case of the OP deleting their comment. I suspected it the latter, the last time this happened that I'm aware of.

I don't think so. Check out how it swallowed the "quote" button and fucked up the headings, sucking the .sig line up into the top:

  • Incidentally, it won't allow you to edit a message to nothing anyway, but even if it did, I don't see why it would suck up the rule line and quote button unless _something_ was broken.

  • OK, I hit the search within Brooklynian for "girl mugging".

It pulls up the first hit as:
    View topic - Girl muggers :: Brooklynian.com | Brooklyn Blog and ...
Three girls tried to mug me just after 1 am on Eastern Pkwy between Washington and Underhill. I wouldn't give them my stuff so they proceeded to hit me ...

Which _is_ the thread I want. I click on the link, and poof! I get the Bob Dylan thread. WTF.

The url resolves to what is shown above in the quote.

ETA: When I went through a full google search, it pulled up a Gowanus Lounge entry with a link to the thread which worked. FYI.

  • Serious significant issues pulling up and posting into threads this AM, last hour. The forums with message lists come up quick, but 70-80% of the time I can't actually get the thread to display. No error, it just times out eventually. When a thread _does_ come up, it comes up quick. Dunno. Giving up for awhile, BBL.

  • Ruh-rohh.

The layout just went screwy in this thread.

The main content area is now overflowing beyond the right-side limits for itself, obscuring the quote/edit/delete buttons and cutting off much of the right-side text before it deems to wrap itself.

Is it because I used h1 tags in my quote? (making it barf on html, forcing different width?)

Definitely not an issue of image width.

Firefox 3 *and* Safari 3.1.1 on Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Heh, b0rkage in a "what's broken" thread. My mind is spinning. :shaking2:

(in case you are wondering how I edited this, I just grabbed an edit button string from another thread and subbed in the right post id as follows:
    http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/posting.php?mode=quote&p=445360
  • Haha! Jeremy broke the page

I hoped to get an award or extra credit or something, but nothing ever materialized.
