  • Despite how lovey dovey everyone is on this board, even when they're fighting; they're fighting super-lib arguements. As much as some of you claim to be such wonderful  "OMG-I WOULD NEVER DO THAT!! " types, I doubt it. I've seen you in action. I've seen you dismiss the girl behind the counter, seen you give the hand to the waitress, seen you roll your eyes at the bank tellers, seen it all....Unless that person registers on your radar, as either a "good minority" (cute! dreadlocks! articulate!) or one of your own, civility does not exist.
Unless of course, it's to your dog.

wait, what? I'm completely confused. are you saying we're all seekritly racist and classist to some degree? or are you saying that we all get cranky and bitchy sometimes?

    what's a "good minority"?

    I has much confusion.

Yes, the senior Senator from Pennsylvania. Voice as thick as a cheesesteak.
Credited with the "single bullet theory". Cancer survivor.

    Alright, guess what, folks...

I've taken the time over the last week or so to review recent and archived posts at the above-cited, rather controversially-named blog that recently took square aim at impugning a friendly member here and some other folk's attitudes expressed here within our merry pastures.

    And ya know what?

While I still object to his ad hominem offenses regarding individual members here, and I am a bit conflicted as to the occasional extremes he occasionally adopts to balance offensive imagery and language (clearly offered in a poetic/creative license sense, to provoke and challenge thought) with his overall messages, I have to say...

For a new blog, this guy has an extremely compelling style and set of messages.

Language and superficialities (read: stylistic choices) aside, he routinely hits on, explores and utterly nails many of the uncomfortable issues and undercurrents that often linger just beyond the edge of polite conversation, but are nonetheless universals of the daily NY/Brooklyn urban experience.

And I have to admit: The guy has really fleshed out his style, and It. Is. Hilarious. And honest.

Once again, it's not for the faint of heart, but then again, few of the issues he takes on are, in their full and vivid realities.

But if you are looking for a fresh voice out there that sifts through the current uneasy adolescence of urban, racial, class, and sexual issues -- where a great many are making great efforts to be more tolerant, accepting and embracing of others, perhaps to a fault in the way this actually plays out in practice -- this guy has his finger on the pulse of it all and has some pretty thought provoking and informative missives to help inform the larger conversation toward more balanced maturity. (ironically enough, given the very deliberate sophomoric style of his writing)

And he has a newer, less controversial domain name that redirects folks to his blog:

    http://www.theblogthatmustnotbenamed.com

    Now that is funny.

Okay, well, that's just my two cents here. Digest and react as ye may.

I confess a few lines on it cracked me up.
  • Subject: thanks!

Thanks for saying all that. Very cool and open-minded of you to give it a shot even after I came in here and made an ass of myself. My apologies for that - it was a mistake.

I tend to get defensive about our little community over there because it's such a refreshingly honest place - yet NAMED so horrendously that it seems like it would be a nightmare, therefore I automatically want everyone to see behind the curtain...

Not the way to get that done. My apologies. And as you probably figured out by now, I'm not blognigger himself - just a reader :)

Thanks again - I hope yall will come over to read and hang out. This morning's first-ever-Obama-post is quite special.

    Take care.
  • I was at a country club when I was in college (I was a guest) and was walking in the front door - I am white. A woman was walking in with a baby in her arms and a friend or relative at her side (all white too). I was holding the door for them. The friend, in a pissy tone, says to me something like, "Of course you are gonna hold that door for us - that is what they pay you for." Now, I was a guest at the club and I was already holding the door. And, I am white. So sometimes, arrogance is just arrogance, regardless of color.

As a side note, I should have responded with the one two teddy.

As a second side note. Who cares? Half the country, at least half, is voting for Obama. Obama - the same guy who prayed at a racist church for 20 years and the same guy that kept his mouth shut every time his church honored the likes of Luis farrakhan, is now seen as a racial healer. Yeah, real smart, vote for the guy who sits in the back and keeps his mouth shut for 20 years while racism is preached to his family. That's the guy I want for my president! Yeah, that's the ticket. Hate the republicans for denying evolution, but wait a second, maybe AIDS was created by whitey, freedom of speech ya know, keep an open mind, Farrakhan aint so bad, blah blah blah, vote for Obama or you are as much as a racist as, well, Obama, blah blah blah, yeah, racism is wrong, except when its our guy, down with Bush, down with the republicans, elect our guy, the right kind of racist, the good racist, the quiet racist who sits in the back and says bubkis.

okay, I feel better now. let the hate posts begin.
