Help with the FOUND CAT - He's getting NICE!!!!!!!!!!
Subject: Help with the FOUND CAT - He's getting NICE!!!!!!!!!!
Please see a new post at the end of page 3 for updates!!!!!My neighbors and I found a cat outside our building this evening. One of my neighbors says she thinks he has been there for a few days (her dog was interested in it last night).
He is very friendly, comes over to people and allows them to pick him up, and purrs when petted. He has a mark where a collar has been, so I think he is lost or else was evicted from his home recently. He is orange and white, an adolescent, and very sweet.
If anyone knows where this adorable cat may have come from, or has an idea about where it can find a loving home, please let me know. He seems very healthy and doesn't seem to have any health issues, and is only a little skinny, so I don't think he's been outside very long. He is currently living in my second bathroom, but I don't know how long I can keep him.

aw, poor booboo.
What part of town did you find him in? Doesn't that sweet doggy of yours like pussycats? :-) -

If you have a .Mac account, you can post them there. Otherwise you can upload them to a free photo-sharing site like Flickr.com

I don't want to post my address online, but we are in NoSlope near 4th Ave. My doggy is fine with cats (he ignores them), but I want to make sure the cat is healthy and ok with dogs before letting them interact, and I'm not sure my husband and I can permanently adopt a cat at this point in our lives.
I'm hoping this cat is just lost and its family is looking for him! -

OMG! He's so cute. I want to kiss that big nose of his :-)
And thanks for taking him in, buying him a litter box and giving him some love, even temporarily.

What a sweet beast. I hope his people find him, if his people they are. But for now, I'm glad he found you.

He has the most beautiful eyes! Thank you, thank you for taking that sweetie in. I'm at maximum foster cat capacity but I'll ask around. If he has no owner would you be willing to foster him for a little while? If so, maybe Kensington Kitties could get him vetted and post him on petfinder. We could also post him on craigslist and put flyers up.

Thanks all for your responses.
The kitty stayed in the bathroom last night, sleeping in our shower on a towel. He cried a bit, and I let him out for a while with the dog, who he mostly ignored. He spent a while just following me around the apartment as I did some chores, and was content to sit with me on the couch with the dog a few feet away for a while, a good sign I think. (of course, our dog basically ignores other animals so
Before I went to bed I let him out again (at this point it was thundering loudly) and he ran under our couch and didn't want to come out. He swatted at me a few times but kept his claws in - scared rather than aggressive, I think. I got him out from under the couch finally and put him back in the bathroom, and he was pretty quiet most of the night. This morning he was curled up and seemed happy to see me, especially when I gave him more food. He's definitely a hungry little guy.
I've put up some lost cat posters in our immediate vicinity and will try to get more word out this evening and tomorrow. Does anyone have good ideas about where I should post (online especially) to try and find this little guy's family?
We are ok to foster him for a while, but I'd really love to find him a good forever home. I'm also going to try to take him to the vet before the week is out to get him checked out for any kitty diseases, before letting him interact with other cats. He seems healthy but I know we can't be sure.
Thanks again for any help or advice! -

If You've Found a Pet…
Flyers may be the best way to find his owner (if he has one). Unfortunately, people throw their cats out on the street all too often so it's possible no one is looking for him.
If you've found a dog, cat, or other pet in New York City, you should file a found pet report. Between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, call the AC&C Call Center at (212) 788-4000. At all other times, contact the AC&C shelters directly (see list below).
The Brooklyn Animal Care Center, serving Brooklyn and Queens, is located at 2336 Linden Boulevard. Call (718) 272-7201. -

Thanks for rescuing this guy - he is a beauty! Everyone loves orange kitties so you won't have any trouble finding him a "forever home" if his owners aren't located. I would also recommend calling 311 and reporting him "found" to AC&C. They keep a log in case his owner contacts them. You also may want to call vet clinics in your area and see if they keep a list of lost/found cats. If his owners aren't located you may want to contact Kensington Kitties, Brooklyn Animal Foster Network, and Mutts and Mitts. Possibly one of those rescue organizations would be able to take him. Thanks again! It's always wonderful to hear when lost cats are off of the street. I'm a sucker for happy endings.
