Favorite lunch special in the slope?

Whats your favorite lunch special (takeout preferred) in PS? Quality and quantity are important as I am a broke mofo and love being able to eat lunch again for dinner. :)

  • Can't talk about best, but had the worst meal ever at Aperitivo recently. Lunch special is cheap, but you get what you pay for and even less.

I was sad--the menu was so promising!

Coco Roco has a great chicken sandwich that's pretty cheap.

  • Yamoto had a big sushi special for $10

  • Tofu has great, healthy, big Chinese lunch specials. And it's really, really good.

  • $3.50 gets you a patty on coco bread at Christy's....although that is on the PH side of Flatbush. :)

$6 gets you two healthier, but still tasty, vegan patties at Healthy Nibbles.....still on the PH side of Flatbush, though. :)

Is it really? Years ago someone told me that place served the worse food ever. Maybe I should give it a chance.

Hanabi and Mango have good lunch specials. Hunan Delight gives you a ton of food for lunch specials, but I prefer the taste of their non-lunch-special food.

 MY FAVORITE!! Nothing like it, hot on the inside, fluffy on the outside.
Press 195; #9 & #14. See previous posts for fave sandwiches in hood!
Naidres-great for takeout, difficult to eat in.
    Kiku Sushi--all locations.
    Olive Vine.

  • I find Naidres to be just mediocre and SUPER overpriced. $9 for a deli-style sandwich? That seems sort of insane to me.

  • 5th Ave Vegetarian's Osaka has a ginormous lunch bento and all the fixins for like $11.

  • My vote goes to KIKU!

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would say that. It's definitely a cut above the average Chinese place, and it's lunch special is a great value and tasty. Great wonton soup, with a nice, almost clear broth.
  • Kinara has (or had) a great deal where any entree was half off at lunch, although I believe it was dine-in only. It's the only decent Indian food I've had in the Slope.
  • Tofu on 7th is my hubby's favorite in the hood Chinese place. he has loved it ever since he first tried it years ago at the recommendation of our Chinese neighbors.
  • Try JPan Sushi on Fifth Avenue between 1st/2nd streets. Their lunch specials are only $8 for 2 maki rolls and they give you a very nice size serving. Also, the lunch special is available all the way to 4:30 p.m.
  • Has anyone tried the lunch special at Scottadito? I am so curious every time I pass by there.

    4:30 pm? Nice!

At least two votes for Tofu means I must try it.
  • Subject: Lunch

I found Tofu to be awful. I keep trying it every so often, but no improvement. Yamato's $9 lunch box is terrific
  • The vegetarian general tso's chicken was terrible at tofu. Maybe their non-vegetarian stuff is better?
  • Their veggie dishes are fine, if a little bland. Very healthy, steamed, somewhat lacking in flavor, honestly. But their non-steamed dishes are really tasty, and still quite light and tasty. I'm standing by my pick.
  • I think Tofu's food is gross.

Kiku has my favorite lunch special - Its $8 for 2 rolls ($7 for 2 of the more plain rolls but the $8 ones are better) with 2 little fried appetizer things, a bunch of edamame, and soup or a salad. The spicy crunchy shrimp roll is possibly the most addictive thing on the planet and I'm also quite sure that my mercury levels are off the charts due to my 3x week consumption of the tuna avocado roll.

Press 195 doesn't have a "special", but the BBQ chicken press is pretty special regardless.

I recently discovered the tiny little room next to Maria's on 4th & Union which is apparently also part of Maria's but has a killer lunch special - Soup or salad (the avocado salad is good) along with a burrito (chicken, veggie, or pork) and a soda for $5.95. It's really good, albeit a little on the heavy side. Hard to find online = 718-638-2344

The cute little health food bodega (5th Ave Market) on the corner of 5th Ave & Berkeley usually has a lunch special board out front with $6 sandwiches and a soda. Lunch special or not, their sandwiches and wraps are really good and pretty cheap.

The new thai place, Mee Thai off 5th Ave & Sackett is delicious and open for lunch. The drunken man noodles are to die for and come with a salad with a wonderful peanut dressing for around $8.
