What kind of Point-and-Shoot digital camera should I get?

Panasonic Lumix's are fantastic. I have one (dmc-fx07) that I love and a friend liked it and the photo quality so well, he got the same one.
I also know two other folks who have different models of the Lumix (more optical zoom on theirs) and they are extremely happy with them.
I think the picture quality is great for a point and shoot and the camera settings are really easy to use. The only gripe I have is that mine is slow to upload the pictures to iphoto, but it's not really a problem.
When I was shopping, the lumix I got was pretty much the same as a powershot sd800, but cheaper. -

I adore my Canon Powershot. I have an older model from a few years ago (SD300, I think) and its held up great to this day. It takes really great quality videos as well (which was a feature I was looking for) and I'm really pleased with how small it is- easy to throw in my pocket or purse.

I've had both Lumix and Cool Pix, was happy with both for the price.

Ive got a fujifilm finepix- I like it, good pictures and its VERY durable. I actually had a much older one (bought about 5 or 6 years ago) and loved it until it finally committed suicide (jumped off my dresser.) It lived in the bottom of my block-hole purse through rain, snow and liquor being poured on it and persevered, so I was a good consumer and bought the same newer model. I've been impressed and it doesn't require any weird software- just drag and drop.
That said, I use it mostly for parties and whatnot, so it's prolly not THAT good of a picture but its perfect for me -
I found it helpful to just go to flickr and look at images taken with the camera's I was considering. Click on the explore tab and there should be a "camera finder" option.
