I GUESS THE RUMORS ARE TRUE...

Oh, god. I recently went up on the roof of our building for the first time all winter and suddenly on the horizon next to our lovely view of the Statue of Liberty is a giant blue building emblazoned with the unmistakable yellow letters. I consider it an eyesore.
As for shopping there, can you even imagine how packed it's going to be for the first few years of its existence? -
True, it could be worse, you could live in Red Hook in the middle of all that madness...

I am excited about Ikea, as well! Jersey is too far away.
Re: it being an eyesore, I suppose we shouldn't have any stores then?
I really want to go when it opens in June, but I don't want to deal with the masses. Maybe I will wait until after the summer? -
Well being the impatient person that I am, I went today. I decided to go after they were already opened around 9:30 but clearly that made no difference. The register line was 1 hr. long!!! I do love IKEA though and so happy I don't have to drive to LI anymore, especially with the price of gas now. It is located in a dead end area not close too much, so I am not sure why all the fuss. You do not need to drive thorugh any neighborhood streets which could cause traffic and it has its own huge lot, so parking is not the issue either. If the whole issue was driving aling hamilton avenue you do not need to take that route either plus hamilton has always had traffic since it leads to BQE, so nothing will change. It has bought jobs into the community which at times like there are greatly needed, so I say You Go IKEA!!!

For a company that prides itself on its design, they have one of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen. Whether you shop IKEA or not, I don't see how you can argue that its new store is anything but an unwelcome addition to the Sunset Park skyline. New stores are fine. Ugly new stores on the other hand...
