Abandoned cars and 311 — Brooklynian

Abandoned cars and 311

Has anyone had any success w/ using 311 to get an abandoned car removed? I've called four times now about a nasty car on Prospect near Grand. The car has four flat tires, garbage jamming up all around them. It's under a tree and filthy, and the windows are broken out with trashbag scraps taped there and blowing in the wind. It's got a PA plate and has been there for months, but every time I call, 311 tells me the cops report that they've come by and see no evidence of an abandoned car. I could take some photos and walk them over to the 77th precinct, but who has that kind of time? Any suggestions are very welcome - thanks.

  • Why not call the precinct direct...speak to the desk sgt and give him the description of the vehicle . I call the pct direct and give them the plate number along with the description and ask if it is reported stolen .Works for me.
  • How bout call The Dept of Sanitation, since this sounds like a derelict vehicle and doesn't fall under the purview of the NYPD.
  • I had similar results to the OP with 311, for an abandoned car on Midwood Street a year or two ago. When I checked back, I was told that the police reported that no action was needed. I next phoned Vinnie Martinos, the Community Affairs Officer at the 71st Pct., and the car was towed a couple of days later.
  • Yeah . . . why don't you call the Community Affairs Officer at the 77th Pct.?
  • You're talking about the white Mazda Millenia? I really think that someone has it out for that guy. First saw it with four flats. Saw it fixed. Saw it with four flats again. Saw it fixed again. Saw it in the current state - four flats, two broken windows, and a beat up hood.

Yeah, let's get it towed the fuck out of here.
  • Yeah . . . I know that car . . . let's do it! I'll call 311 too (or the 77th Pct.)
