This weekend in Prospect Park? — Brooklynian

This weekend in Prospect Park?

A friend mentioned a century bike ride in PPark this weekend. Anyone know anything about it? I thought he said citycoach or some group was organizing something, but I can't find out any details...

If anyone knows, please tell me. I think it might have been saturday evening century followed by beers or something.

The century starts at 7pm on the 21st, I believe. And has nothing to do with Brooklynian. Perhaps someone with the info about the century would like to post up.

It's my humble little event. The annual No Sleep 'til Brooklyn Century. 30 laps of Prospect Park. It's mostly just some of the athletes that I coach and me, but if you're interested in joining us for the whole thing, shoot me a PM. More info is at http://citycoach.typepad.com/weblog/2008/05/no-sleep-til-br.html
  • 30 laps?!?!

What, you do that in like, an hour, right?

It is most certainly NOT a Brooklynian event...

Sounds like a great time for those that can do it. Good show joncane!

Maybe one day you can train us "barely bikers."
  • I am really tempted to go. Can anyone show up?

Sounds like fun. I'm not quite ready for a century. Maybe next year! :D

Much to my chagrin, I don't own the park yet, so I couldn't stop anyone even if I wanted to. All joking aside, it has generally been a pseudo-closed event in the past, but if you care to join us and are comfortable riding in a pack, then come on out. As stated in the blog post, we try hard to stick to our "in for a dime, in for a dollar" policy, but it's a pretty fun crew. We're just shooting for steady 11 minute laps so that we get out in time. (Plus a couple of us have to be at work at 7 the next mornings, so there's no time to dilly dally). Make sure to have lights on front and back. If you hit me up on facebook, I can send you an invite and all the details about food and anything else. Search for the "city coach" group or just shoot me a PM.

Ha, I WISH I could go that fast, not even Armstrong could do that. It's going to take several hours, and yeah, while not a brooklyian event, I'm going to do it, and I'm a "brooklynian." :-) so it's no more or less one of our events than is seeing Dylan in the park this summer :-)

+1. There are actually a few semi-regular Brooklynian posters riding. And no - we're not gonna do it in an hour. More like 5.5. The scary part is that while we don't cancel because of rain - we rode last year through pouring rain and thunder/lightning - the opera will postpone until tomorrow if it rains tonight. If that's the case, we're screwed.
  • ^^^^---- ug, yeah, we might be screwed.
  • I posted a brief post-ride report at http://citycoach.typepad.com/weblog/2008/06/nstb100-prelimi.html

Overall, it was a great ride - safe, not-too-fast, not-too-slow, beautiful weather, etc. Lotsa fun. Start training now for next year. See you June 21, 2009.
  • ---^ Good report, it was a great time! Mine's here: http://moccasins.tumblr.com/ (June 23rd entry)
