Tiki Bar - did anyone actually go?

Supposedly it opened last night. No men under 25 or women under 21? No sneakers, workboots, or hats? Could I wear flip-flops?

Considering their "beer blast" advertised, it's kind of funny that they reserve the right to refuse service to someone who is TOO intoxicated.

So, did anyone go?

    I had no idea about this place. I will have to check it out. With those stipulations, it sounds like they are trying to attract a more upscale crowd ( its a bit crass that they spell it out like that, but that's how I read the dress code at least).

    It's so funny. I walked past there twice this weekend and it looks like they're trying to make it nice, but I bet it will get the same clientele that's been going to the sports bar that was in its place. The neighborhood is what it is, and that's one of the only bars in that area.

    No idea if they managed to get it open in time.

    Why would anyone want to...being a self professed tiki-file (I was at Zombie Hut on Smith St. during the street fair yesterday...unfortunately disappointing in its newer location), there is zero about the place (from their website) that is appealing. Who ever heard of a tiki-bar having a "beer night?"

    I'll stick to my mai tais and zombies at home.

    ADDED: and I'll be going barefoot and inviting folks under 25 over too boot! :twisted:

    Seems they are trying to pull in a swankier crowd than the old bar there ever got, which was pretty much locals blowing off steam. Good luck with that.

    sorry but there is just no way you can make a tiki-bar upscale unless you are Trader Vic's in Beverly Hills....and 4th avenue is NOT Beverly Hills.

    I checked it out recently and this place is worth a visit. The music is great, the crowd is very friendly as is the staff and the vibe is very laid back. Plus you can't beat the drink prices! Too bad they don't have dancing...

    Then let's just call it " an upscale bar" and take out all the tiki silliness. Was the decor anything along the lines of tropical in any way?

    Actually I'm not sure why they callit a tiki bar, the decor is not tropical. It is a nice bar with a laid back feel and there was no dress code that I saw being enforced when I went. There were some guys with wife beaters and some with baseball caps, while others wore dress shirts. The drinks and music pretty much made the place. I do wish they had stuck to the dress code idea, maybe they do on weekends who knows.

    I've been to the Tiki bar several times. I am friends with one owner and the other happens to be an old friend of my father's which I didn't know until after I was talking with him at the bar. The "tiki" theme is not tropical but alot of wood. The walls were done in half bamboo (not real I assume). Overall the bar is a good place to go during the week after work to have a cold one. They have no problem turning on a game on one of the 4 LCD tvs they have across the bar. There is a back area for dancing and a rear patio for the smokers or if you want some fresh air while holding your drink. on the weekends is gets crowded in there. Alot of dancing and a good mix of people. The staff is laid back. They're trying hard to make sure it stays legit and keep the riff raff outside of the doors.

    The only thing "tiki" about this place is the drinks they serve. This establishment would fail if they made it an upscale bar in my opinion. Well, no idea what audience the owner is targeting anyhow. Security is tight, i was afraid a fight would break out when I went there.

    it's right near where i work, nothing about it appeals to me. like someone above, if i want tiki i go to zombie hut
