I always knew you were a baby-hater!!!!
Uh.... sorry, wrong thread........ -

Have you ever worked in food service?
I could tell you about the day when I was having a pizza with friends in the midwest and I found a hippie hair and a nail in my "genuine New York Pizza". -

Baby... the other other white meat..
(incidently, if you do a google image search for "fat bastard", you'd be suprised how many pictures of Michael Moore come up. Or maybe you wouldn't) -
Blue Sky Bakery on 5th off of Bergen. Incredible muffins.

Try Delices de Paris (sp?) on 9th St. - between 5th and 6th Ave. Really good Parisian-style tarts and reasonable prices. -

p.s. Red Hen has jacked up their prices -- what a rip! -

Although not in the slope, I think the pastries at Royal Crown Bakery on 14th Ave and 64th? are very good. Not too sweet, not too expensive (but not really pretty either). The bread is unbelievable. One of the best breads in NY. The Ricotta cheesecake and lobster tails are great. Red Hen is a total rip off. -
where to get really, really good bread though? these chain bakeries in the Slope are terrible.

The best bread in the city is Royal Crown bakery. A lot of good restaurants who don't bake their own break, buy from them. It is worth the trip to Bay ridge(?). -
Sadly I've had to resort to buying bread from Union Market or Blue Apron. Since Uprising closed there's been no place in the North Slope to get good, crusty, fresh bread from an actual bakery. There IS an old-school bakery on 7th between Union and President (I think it's called Regina's?) that sells basic Italian bread and cookies, but that's about it. Their ruggalah (sp?) is pretty good, though their bread has always tasted kind of dusty to me...

Ohmigod ditto. I'm obsessed.

Caputos on Court Street is my favorite for bread

Okay. . . where do I go to get a good birthday cake? Buttercream frosting, raspberry filling, the works? Carroll Ggns., Cobble Hill, B. Heights, etc.?

Two Red Hens on 8th Ave or Court Street Pastry on Court Street. Also FYI all the Pathmarks I have been to sold some sort of Carvel ice cream cake or pre-made birthday cakes - never tasted them though
Thanks! It's a birtday emergency! -
Big Sky on Fifth Ave in the Slope (I am not sure where it is, but I know it is not far from the corner of Sterling). And what about Melissa's in Carrol Gardens?
Good luck! -

Thank you both ffor the suggestions. In the end I went with Sweet Melissa; I'm going to make a note of the others, though, for future reference.
Thanks! -
Lopez Bakery on 5th Avenue between 18th and 19th has excellent bread. or, you can go to Caputo's on Court Street-a lot of restaurants get their bread from them

teamkaty wrote: My favorite bakery for sweets on Court is Monteleone's. Great pignoli cookies and...oh, whatever those super flaky pastries with ricotta in them are.
They are called lobster tails
PS is sadly, and strangely, lacking in bakeries. I agree that Cousin John's is just ehh, and I'm not crazy about Three Hens either. Some of the stuff at Naidre's is good, some is not. Blue Sky gets points for effort, but there's nothing I'd go out of my way for. That "french" place on 9th is horrible.
Oh, how I miss the chocolate babka muffins at Lopez. Actually, I miss that place, period. -
Okay... I'm looking for a great place to order cupcakes from in BK, that doesn't have crazy high delivery fees? I just want to order ~3dozen...
any suggestions?? -

The bread is excellent, but I tried the pastry a couple of times and it was stale.
I like what I've tried at Two Little Red Hens and never had a problem with the staff. -

any suggestions??

I totally agree about the bread. Royal Crown is awesome. -

The site is nice, and the cupcakes look great. I just emailed her... hopefully she can help me out -
So is Joyce really going to open 1 week from today as previously announced?

There is a newly opened Patisserie on the corner of 9th street and 6th
Avenue: Patisserie Colson. It was reviewed in last Wednesday's NY
Times.
I tried their Swiss Brioche and it was amazing. They also serve waffles and homemade ice cream.
Worth checking out. Good coffee as well. -
What's the local bakery update?
Here's what I know:
We've been by Colson's on 9th St at 6th Ave a couple times. Financiers and coffee, deeeeelicious. Swiss brioche very eggy and not sweet. They appear to excel at the not-sweet baked goods, if you like that kind of thing. Sandwiches look good, mostly variations on ham and compte cheese. Cold custard tarts and other fussy things appear pretty fabu too. Service is lethargic and annoying and it's hard to get your yum and run.
Blue Sky on Fifth Ave closed, right?
Howdy, Stranger!
