Does anyone have an aircard?

Or whatever those cards are called these days? I'm looking to purchase and sign up for one because I work from home and would like to expand my "office" space to damn near anywhere anytime. Airports are a particularly big pain in the ass, but I would also love the option to surf and work while on amtrak or in a car. Does anyone have cingular or verizon aircards? How do you like the connectivity? I've heard some good things about cingular's new 3g network but I dont actually personally know anyone who's used it and can attest to its speed/coverage...

I had an AT&T card for work and it worked pretty well everywhere I went - Baltimore, TX, NH, FL...pretty solid on Amtrak too. Much better than my colleague who had one on Verizon

how fast would you say it is in comparison to regular broadband? 50% the speed? 75%? I'm trying to validate the worth...

mine was pretty fast... I never looked at the transfer rate, but I didn't have any significant slowness at all.

see if there are any coverage maps or ask people who live near you if you are looking to have this as your primary access even while working from home

I had a AT&T 3g card. It was a speed demon whether my laptop was stationary or moving in my car or Amtrak where I would use MS Roadmap (GPS) and Sirius Broadband at the same time without missing a beat unless I hit a dead zone such as a tunnel or an area without a tower. There is no roaming. However, I gave it up after seeing the lose to 33% additional tax on top of a $50+ a month fee. I was paying around $85 a month.

Does anyone have an aircard?
