Bitches!

Well here's some advice on your last day. I was downsized (rightsized, eliminated, or whatever you want to call it) and decided after a very traumatic first night, that it was actually a good thing to get me away from the crazy bitches I worked with.
So, the last day of work I brought a bottle of champange in, my analyst brought me a box of chocolate covered strawberries from Godiva, and I invited a select group of folks into my office for a toast. I spent the last day sipping champange eating strawberries and saying goodbye.
It felt so good to walk out on my own terms. -

thanks. I'm working with an employment lawyer. basically, I'm being advised to wait for something actionable to happen (which should happen VERY shortly) and then to quit. but man. I so wanted to just walk today. but everyone with a level head looking out for my rights told me to stay put. ARGH.

thanks, AW. I appreciate it. -
no joke: I got a happy birthday card today from HR with a $10 gift cert to barnes and noble. NO JOKE.
-
HA!! You're in an episode of the office or a dilbert strip.

as much as I love you, I don't think that's the right action to take now. esp given the lawyers I'm talking to. I think I have to ... (gasp!) be good. -
but we like you in your natural state of pure EBIL!!
-
This really sucks, Alafairnadia. I know you'd never want to keep working for these people after all this asshattery, so I hope you can stick it to them bigtime. And find an even better-paying position somewhere else.
-
Keep us posted - and good luck.

I actually need a sympathetic ear asap. anyone available?

update: lawyer just called me back and we went over the whole law of diminishing returns. obviously I can fight. obviously I can fight really hard. I have to wait to get fired and be a model employee until then. however. I am so angry, frustrated and emotionally battered I don't think I can do it. I have some brunches lined up this weekend with people in the tech industry who can get me some side jobs and I plan to take advantage and quit on monday, even though it's not my best legal move. because, frankly, even if I waited to get fired, I'd have an uphill battle. and it'd be ugly. this is tough.
-
I'd quit, but I told you that already. You need to dust yourself off and go forward and not harbor on it. You don't need the headache of fighting this.
Fuk em and catch the next ride. -
I quit a job once with no new job lined up because i was fucking miserable. it took me a long time to find a new one, but still was one of the best things I did, even if it was tough financially
-
It sounds like "fighting" in this case is the thing to do if you want to try to prove a point, or to try to sooth a bruised ego.
But it would likely leave you worse off - emotionally and financially - than if you just let them go.
I really think that in this case it will be really brave and strong of you to quit. You are thinking of this maturely, and trying to take care of yourself.
I've quit jobs in emotional arguments, and I've been fired for unfair reasons.
When I've tried to stay or when I've tried to make them admit that they're being unfair, it has hurt me.
It hurts me still. Leaving has led to more stable and comfortable jobs. They're just jobs.
You are smart and talented and bright and funny and quick and lovely. You are going to be okay.
I hope this isn't too cheesy:
You have friends. -
So Alaf,
Sounds like you needa drink or ten.
When may we buy you some belated-birthday, angst/sturm-unt-drang beers at FP? Heck, reading the boards lately, it looks like many could use such an evening out.
People, can I get an amen? (and a few draughts, while we're at it?)
Who wants? -
Jeffery, some of us are going to Aji on 9th street btw 4th/5thave
at 6pm, come join us! -
thank you. everyone.
really.
I'm planning to hit cattyshack tomorrow evening - until 10 p.m. they are having 2 for 1 mojitos, frozen drinks and margaritas in the bar upstairs (which includes their AWESOME deck)
tonight I need to meet with a friend who is at barklay's - see if she can get me a side gig doing something low-key and paying actual money. tomorrow morning I have brunch with a friend whose connections include google, microsoft and myspace. I'm thinking I could get a side gig at somewhere techy and ... well ... not annoying.
so. cattyshack tomorrow evening? if not, afterward, I'm thinking either FP or beast. and I'd love post-bday drinks.

Aji?
Gesundheit!
By the looks of things I will be able to wrap up here by 8p and can join up then.
I have Alalaf's cel numbah, so if she 'll be with ya we can arrange to talk me through the landing a la Airport '77 (or Airplane!, more appropriately...).
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffin' glue.

Hm...might only be able to go one night or the other.
Might need to opt out of drinks out there tonight to make sure I have clearance (Clarence...Roger, Over! And stop calling me Surely...) for going out tomorrow to buy Alaf the aforementioned bebida.
Darn. Hate to pass on drinks, but may have to tonight.
Hope to see everyone tomorrow, then.
Cheers, big ears... -
Heh...hm...okay.

But will be carving out larger swath of time to rock de werld tomorrow.

I'm definitely kinda super booked tonight. tomorrow I'm way less ... booked and, obvi, it's a weekend so I'm freeer. tonight is just ... I can go to aji but that means cabs and I'm actually having to think about money these days more than before and, well, this all sounds like maybe I can't make it work. anyone want to meet at superfine or low bar at like 10 p.m.?? love the dumbo bars.

RESIGNED TONIGHT! yay! gave two weeks like a nice lady. woo!
-
Good for you! How does it feel? I felt SO relieved after I quit my awful situ.
Did they give you any crap? Hopefully they'll just pay you off for those 2 weeks and you can chill for a bit.
Howdy, Stranger!
