I like the vets there (Prospect Park Animal Clinic) but have never had my dog's teeth cleaned. Everyone who I've seen handle my dog has been really gentle and good with him. -
We take our dog to Hope Vet on Atlantic and they are very nice there. He has only had his teeth cleaned once, but we lived in Manhattan then and went to a different vet.

I actually live on 6th street...is this the Prospect Park Animal Clinic? -

I have been going to Prospect Park Animal Clinic with my two Pekes for years - we see both Dr. Silverman and Dr Ray Quim. We love going there. I was just there this past Sunday and asked about teeth cleaning. You have to leave your dog most of the day - the dog will be anesthetized and the cost is $300-400 for a "regular" cleaning and up to $500 if your dog has a lot of built up tartar. I nearly collapsed when I hard those prices. I think I'll be brushing my dogs teeth more regularly now!

Animal Kind used to be good, a long, long time ago, but they got way to big and seemed to be pressing a lot of unnecessary and somewhat expensive shots/procedures on us in our last cat's golden years. His passing was not really handled that well by them.
We decided to start fresh with Samantha, our new cat, at 5th Ave Cat Clinic (President?). Hated 'em big time.
We took Samantha to Hope on Atlantic this year and it was great. Very attentive vet who really talked to us - not expensive at all, and although it was crowded on a Saturday they handled it well. -
I went to the Prospect Park Animal Clinic a couple of times, and I found them to be very expensive. Plus, each time I waited a long time for a scheduled appointment. Heard bad things about 5th Ave Cat Clinic, but I have never been.
I recently got a new kitten, and have been going to the Pet Haven clinic in Windsor Terrace/Kensington for shots and check ups. Very nice people, and reasonable too.

I second the vote for Hope vets on Atlantic (in Boerum Hill).
Very reasonably priced and, in my experience, have been very honest about what my dog and cat need, and what is unecessary/optional, with out the guilt trip that I have gotten from other vets I have used in the past.
They are also quite holistic and will give you samples of various things (for tartar control and etc....) to see if your animal will tolerate it before you buy the product (as there is no point in buying something that you will only use once).
All in all, the are the BEST! -
I love Hope on Atlantic. Great vets, extremely reasonable pricing - what more could you want?

Thanks everyone with your suggestions....this has really helped a lot!

Just for another opinion... We go to Animal Kind but only to see Dr. Helen Spiegel. She is absolutely wonderful. Talks to you straight, dissuades you from doing unnecessary procedures/tests and administering unnecessary meds. She's awesome, but I haven't been too impressed with other doctors there.
